I was admitted early to UMich for engineering, and I was wondering if there are any honors programs or special scholars programs or anything that I would be considered for? I know LSA has one, but I don’t know about engineering. I’m OOS.
Also are there any purely merit-based scholarships Michigan has? My parents make too much money to qualify for need-based but they told me they aren’t going to pay for my education and I’ll need to find the money myself through work, scholarships, etc. They told me if I don’t find the money, I’m going to an in-state school that’s cheap.
I think there’s an engineering honors program. Umich gives very few merit scholarships especially to oos students because they know they don’t need to attract u with merit aid and plenty of oos students are willing to pay the full cost. What’s your in state school? Engineering is a relatively flat field and u can get a great education from many schools Purdue is a great option for out of state and uiuc
Unfortunately, you’ve missed most of the application deadlines at this point. The Bell Scholarship deadline was 2/1. It is worth $80,000 to those who qualify.
@Tw1ssT Oh, I applied to that. I was hoping for more merit from UMich (but I’m not surprised I haven’t gotten any considering how little merit aid there is and how competitive the applicant pool is).
@Eeeee127 I don’t think the engineering honors program is like the LSA honors program where you are notified if you are invited around the time you receive your admission letter. I think the engineering honors program is one you have to apply to while you’re at UMich. I may be wrong.
I was referring to special invites/programs that you might get before you commit to a school (so maybe I can manage to convince my parents that UMich is worth it). My in-state school is UVA, which isn’t known for its engineering program (although I did get into the Rodman honors program for engineering, which has its benefits).
