A few questions and chances for OOS Honors Engineering

So, first a few questions. I would like to apply for the Honors Program and major in engineering at Michigan. Do I apply for the Honors Program when I apply for admission? If so, will I not be accepted to the university if I'm not accepted into the Honors Program?

Ok, and now would you be so kind as to chance me for the Honors Program and UM? :)

Here are my stats:

I'm a white male from a small public school out of state, in the suburbs of Minnesota. My school very rarely sends anyone to a top school(I doubt it has ever sent anyone to an Ivy League).

GPA: 3.992 Unweighted (All As except one A- from Spanish 2 in 9th Grade, so this would be a 4.0 on the UM scale)
Rank: 3/191

ACT: 35 Composite (36 Reading, 35 English, 34 Math, 33 Science), 10 of 12 in Writing
SAT Subject Tests

Well first thing you should know, there is no honors program for engineering. The honors college is LS&A only. As far as chances go, umich engineering and the LS&A honors college are both safety options for you.

To apply for honors, I'm pretty sure you just apply regularly to the college of LS&A, and if you're good enough they automatically put you in. I'm not sure about that though, so could someone else verify that?

Yeah theres no Honors Program in Engineering. Only if you apply to LSA - can you get into the Honors Program. The top applicants to LSA are automatically considered for the Honors Program and are notified sometime after they are accepted (into the university). If you aren't notified you have the option of requesting an invitation to Honors. You have to write an essay to get in through this. 70% Honors students get accepted automatically and 30% through the essay application.

And yeah , you're a safety for Michigan and a match for Honors.

Aww, no honors for me in engineering eh? :(

Anyway, you guys think I have a good chance at merit aid? I've got some more of my stats here that didn't post with the rest for some reason.

SAT Subject Tests: World History - 790, Math Level 1 - 760. I'll be taking Math Level 2 and Physics soon. I expect at least a 700 on Physics, but probably higher.

AP: World History - 5, Statistics - 5, U.S. History - 4, Spanish - 3
I've taken the most rigorous course load I could, the one exception being that I didn't take Honors English in 9th grade.

Extracurriculars:
-Quiz Bowl, from 10th grade on (Our A Team, which I am a member of, qualified for the State and National tournament, if that counts for anything)
-Science Olympiad, from 10th grade on (I got 1st in my regional event, and placed relatively well in the state tournament)
-Math League, from 10th grade on
-NHS
-Fencing for 5 years (Although I quit a couple months back, it was just taking up too much time and I've been very busy lately)

Awards, etc:
-National Merit Semi-Finalist?(I haven't been told yet, but I got a 219 on the PSAT and last year's cutoff for Semi-Finalist in MN was 214-215, so I think I have a very good shot)
-Boy's State Delegate
-Distinguished student in Biology, A Honor Roll, blah blah, more of the usual filler stuff :P

Community Service:
Not much of this, unfortunately.
-Several hours of helping out in various things at church
-maybe 10 hours of various community service with NHS(Raking leaves for people who wouldn't be able to themselves, will be cleaning up trash along the streets, helping with recycling)
-Helping a local organization, 4EverGreen, clean up the streets around town for several hours

well isnt EGL (engineering global leadership) basically honors engineering?

Michigan doesn't look at SAT 2's nor do they look at 9th grade. You've got a good shot at merit aid too.

EGL is not honors engineering, but merely a program for those who are looking for more of an international aspect to their engineering degree.

Lyr, you definitely stand a good chance of getting significant merit scholarship money.
