Hi all,
I recently got the mail for this program. Then i went to the online application. It was pretty extensive with three essays.
However, when i asked my friend about the honors program he said he automatically got in because of his grades/test scores and didnt even do the application/3 essays.
I was wondering has things changed in the past year and now the honors invite is not automatic, instead we have to apply for it?
Thanks!

It’s near-automatic for current students, OSU students who have completed two quarters and maintained a 3.4 (3.5 for some majors) just basically schedule a meeting with an honors adviser and get in. However, it works to your advantage to apply for it now because for those two quarters that everyone else is waiting, you’ll have priority scheduling (a godsend for a school like OSU), and access to honors classes which you need to complete.

Oh, and what I just said doesn’t apply to Scholars, I don’t think there’s a way to get into Scholars except from applying as an incoming freshmen.

I’m assuming you are applying to OSU now, and would be a freshman in fall 2012. If so, you are correct that it has changed.

My daughter is a freshman Honors student at OSU. Last year there was no application to be in Honors, it was by invitation only depending on your GPA, class rank and test scores. It appears to me from looking here that they have changed things this year and you must submit an application and the essays in order to be considered for Honors.

It also appears to me that you must submit the Honors/Scholars application in order to be considered for the Presidential and Medalist scholarships.

This is a change from what my daughter had to do. She was automatically offered admission to the Honors program about three weeks after she was accepted by OSU. She had to write the essays in order to be considered for the Presidential and Medalist Scholarships. It looks like they are making everyone who wants to be in Honors apply and do the essays all at once now. Not sure why they changed.
