Honors/scholar program?

I was recently admitted to OSU, and yesterday I recieved a brochure and letter encouraging me to apply to the Honors/Scholar program.

Does anyone have any info about it or experience with it? Is it a selective program? (I’d be most interested in the Communication Technology program (as a journalism/communication or english major…)

Did you apply to OSU before Dec. 15? Also, I heard that in the scholars/honors program you get priority scheduling, one of the reasons why I want to get in.

I believe my application was recieved on 12/15 (a complete coincidence on my part!).. I didn't even think about applying Honors/Scholars until I recieved the letter encouraging me to do so, though.. complete dumb luck.. (:

Ya its too bad Im only beginning to send in my app, I really want to get into the program because of its benefits.

honors is better than scholars. it is becoming increasingly well recognized. i think if you are in state, in the top 10% of your class, and have a 1300 on the SAT, you are automatically in (i THINK....i'm not positive on that). i have my visit with the honors college next thursday. the office is really nice and accomodating. they will set up personal meetings with admissions counselors, give you a tour at basically any time....it's very convenient. they seem like they really WANT to convince you to go there. maybe it's because the kids they are working with are the kids who got into the honors program and thus are the "smart" kids of the school...i don't know.
also, osu has been making admissions much more competitive/difficult in the past few years, so the prestige of this program has been increasing as well.

i had a visit/meeting with people from the osu honors college today and LOVED it...i never thought i would because OSU is so huge (50k) but i really really really liked a lot of things about it, i.e. the 25 person cap on all honors classes.
i just may become a buckeye next year......

so did you have to apply by dec. 15 to be considered for honors?

no, but not applying by december 15 KILLED my financial aid opportunities. i was waiting to hear the decision from an early decision school and so i didn't manage to apply by then. grrrrr
