Honors section

Please help me to select 5 honors to list on my application:

  1. National Merit Semifinalist
  2. National AP Scholar
  3. Nordstrom Scholar
  4. NHS
  5. Spanish writing contest winner- stipend to study Spanish in U of Salamanca
  6. 7 weeks highly selective summer research program

Thank you!

Can you do #6 as an activity on the common app?

Nearly everyone gets NHS that applies to selective schools, so I would not waste an “award” spot on it. Instead, list it as an activity if you like, and focus on any leadership or beneficial parts of it.

I would omit NHS, and list the summer program as an activity.

I agree with @thumper1

Thank you everyone. This is what I am going to do. Also, should I describe those honors, like for example Nordstrom Scholar-One of 80 students in US awarded?

It doesn’t hurt to include a brief description if there is space. I would describe 6 and 7 for sure, and probably 3). Some people think the AP awards are a big deal, but personally I feel 2 doesn’t mean much because they can already see your APs listed in that section so it doesn’t add any additional information. If necessary, you can use the additional info section to list things, but keep in mind if you list too many things it may detract from the impression of your bigger accomplishments.
