Spanish is my absolute worst subject. I hate it and I'm terrible at it. I'm going into junior year, prep school, and so far I've been very lucky. I tested into Spanish II freshman year, and I've managed to get decent grades. Across the board I have pretty good grades, As and Bs. Freshman year I took all honors except math, sophomore year all but math and chem. This year I have honors English and I'm trying honors algebra, I have AP history and environmental science, I'm joining choir, and I have the required theology class. I'm also signed up for honors Spanish IV. I was originally signed up for AP Psych, but my parents and counselor brainwashed me into thinking I would do just great in Spanish. The only reason I haven't gotten a C is because of google translate and writing and memorizing essays ahead of time for in class writing. My summer assignment-translating an entire magazine into English- is killing me, and I have no time during the year to spend hours on it like I am now. I honestly don't know the first thing in Spanish. I'm sure colleges love level 4 of a languages, but I know I won't get by like I did before this year. Wouldn't it better to take psych and get a way better grade? It's not like it's an easy class, and 3 AP classes junior year looks very pretty on a transcript. Plus, it would open up a slot next year for an elective related to my field of interest, something in the realm of film or communications. Give me your opinions, and soon, because two weeks from now I won't have a choice!!

If you aren’t going into a psychology or medical field, don’t take it. Instead, take Spanish 4, suck it up, study, and get good grades. Obviously you’re smart enough with your other courses and you obviously aren’t trying in Spanish to your fullest potential. Oh, and languages are extremely important in today’s world and you could wind up with a job that you wouldn’t have had if you didn’t have this proficiency level in Spanish and can add a good chunk more of money onto your paychecks.

So I should take it even though I’ll get a C at best? And I really do try. It’s just that I’m so far behind that if I did it without a translator I’d make a fool of myself an get an even lower grade. Plus, I’d be spending so much time trying to keep up a C it would probably affect my other classes.

If you’ve taken other Spanish classes (like you said), then you obviously can’t be that terrible. And a C at best in a regular language class? Hmm, might wanna rethink if that sounds logical or not. Do BETTER than a C. If that means extra credit and help, do it… Affecting your other classes? No…
