I am doing First Year Engineering - Electrical Intent this fall and my roommate is doing FYC. I was accepted in to the Honors Program and would like to stay in the Honors Village. He wants to stay in the FYC Village. I have permission from the head of the Honors Program to bring him in to the Honors Village if I wish.

I want to stay in the Honors Village because they are newly remodeled, the noise should be less, and because I want to enjoy all of the perks of the Honors Program.

He wants to stay in the FYC Village because he believes all Honors people will be wierd people, FYC will be more fun, and the people will be more fun.

He claims we can stop the noise by closing the door. HAHA.

Which direction should we go?

Tough call. Newly remodeled is always good but Tucker or Owen on Central campus is an unbeatable location. Do you think you’ll stay on campus after freshman year? Many, including my S move off campus after freshman year.
Since FYC students only have one year to enjoy the FYC dorms, maybe you could live in FYC for freshman year and then move to honors for soph. year.

I’m going to be an entering freshman this year staying in the honors dorms. Personally, I would prefer to stay there because, after all, we’re going to college for an education. I would prefer to be living with people who have their priorities straight but also know when it’s appropriate to have fun

As far as his concerns go, I did an overnight visit for the honors program and found that any stereotypical misgivings of “nerdy”, “boring” or “weird” people have about honors students weren’t present. There are lots of events put on by the honors students, and they’re really fun! The way I see it, it’s better to go out and find parties and what your friend deems to be “fun” people and have a quiet(er) place to come back to.

Also, the facilities were really nice. I know there are people who applied to honors for the sole reason of getting to live on the Quad, so I think your friend should be excited to have the opportunity to stay there with you.

Im hoping to live on the Honors Quad.
My thinking is I want to party but I dont want to live where the party is happening and I want a quiet(er) place to sleep.

UT would be fun but unproductive and potential for being surrounded by less than reputable people.

I have a question about dorms. My son was all set to go to USC and live in the Capstone Scholars dorm. We visited State last week and BAM, he loved it and wants to go there. So we’ve been scrambling to get everything in order. Everyone says to stay on central or west campus and one of the engineering student leaders recommended Lee or Sullivan Halls. I checked them out and HOLY COW, there is 1 shower for 10 people in those suites! That is crazy. He’d never get a shower! I looked at North Hall (which is East campus) and they have one bathroom for 2 people. That is so much better. What would the drawbacks be for a Freshman living on East campus?
