Both honors and AP biology cover the same contents, right? Please verify this. Thx.

I'd think it would depend more on what your school covers in honors. Not to mention the normal honors class would be much less in depth than an AP class. At my school, AP bio is double period and generally has honors as a prerequisite.

You could check out the College Board's AP bio description and compare it to your school's honors bio description.

AP Bio covers the material in Honors Bio a lot more in depth. There is also a good deal of material in AP Bio that is almost never covered in Honors Bio. The labs in AP Bio are also a lot more complicated (and interesting). Most, but not all, schools require people to take Honors Bio before AP Bio. This makes sense since AP Bio is supposed to be equivalent to an introductory college level course in bio for science majors.

hmmm, dd is taking AP Bio and never took any reg or hon bio, only had reg physics and chem. She is liking it. I don't think it's worth it to take a reg science and then repeat it as an AP, when you could be making sure you have the 3 sciences. If you have extra room in the schedule, I think it's better to take an advanced math class like calc based stats, or even an art class--or whatever creative-side class you like.

at my school you have to take honors Bio in 9th grade and then AP Bio in either 11th or 12th grade. From what I remember about honors, it was much simpler and AP has tons upon tons of more detail.

For example, in Honors we just learned that DNA untwists and complementary nucleotides match up to make a new strand while in AP we learn all about leading and lagging strands, Okazaki fragments, SSBPs, Topoisomerase, helicase, DNA pol I, DNA pol III, primase, DNA Ligase, # of hydrogen bonds between Adenine and Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine...well, you get my point. :)

I took honors bio as a freshman and AP as a sophomore; AP is much more detailed and in-depth. I really liked AP Bio!

I finished what I learned in a year of Bio H in basically about 4-5 month when I was in AP Bio.

"I don't think it's worth it to take a reg science and then repeat it as an AP"

I don't know about your D's school, but I'm pretty sure most school require students to take the regular (or honors) class before you take the AP class. (Take Chem I before AP Chem, Physics I before AP Physics etc). The AP science classes normally arn't the first class you take in a particular field.
