There is a Best Western next to the Hampton Inn Garden District. Not so sure its too great (never set foot inside it) but location is convenient.

I have stayed in the Best Western next to hampton inn when it was called the St. Charles Inn pre Katrina; they were doing renovations but the rooms were very nice and the location is great. Next door is the Superior Grill a great mexican restaurant.

And as for the Superior Grill- to be honest- its convenient, but the food wasn’t so good, the drinks were overpriced and there was a rat outside the side entrance last time I was there. Ewww.

Last time I was at the Superior Grill the food was OK (didn’t get drinks) but in the middle of the meal a man came racing through the restaurant followed by a policeman, and within seconds there were 5 police cars outside. It was more exciting than the game that was on at the time, anyway.

LOL spring162. Really, if you just need something to eat and it is late or you just want to be very close to your hotel when you finish, don’t avoid it. There is really nothing wrong with it at all, it is a small Louisiana chain. They have places in Baton Rouge and Shreveport also. But we only ate there because it was so convenient (also right next to Hampton Inn) and because we have been to New Orleans so often that I didn’t feel we were cheating ourselves out of a meal at all the other (clearly better) places.

Having said that, if going to New Orleans is likely to be an infrequent thing, absolutely plan meals elsewhere.

OK, if I cant eat at the Superior Grill, where else should I go? We will be arriving at the Best Western around 530pm on a Saturday if all goes well with flights. I am not planning on renting a car since I have read here that the streetcar is great. So it would be easiest if the places were servicable by the streetcar to simplify my life. Not looking to “dress” for dinner after travelling so a place that you can go that is casual would be great. DD looking for a “real” NO place. I have read on other thread that Commanders Palace is great but not sure where that is in relation to where I will be. I also read on Tripadvisor that it is “fancy”?

Commanders is upscale. On the more casual side that is excellent, you could go to the Red Fish Grill on Bourbon Street only a block off Canal. Not a long walk at all from the streetcar last stop, near the Quarter. It is a popular choice. Of course once you are in the Quarter there are so many places. You could go to K-Pauls. Also OK to be casual there. If you want to stay close to the hotel, one of my favorite places is Pascal’s Manale restaurant. 10 blocks from your hotel opposite direction from the Quarter. If the weather is good it is a nice, safe walk. If not it is an inexpensive taxi ride. PM me if you want more info.

How did you find out about the weekend and when exactly is it? My s can’t seem to find it on the admitted student’s page. Help! And is there only one? Thanks.

You should have received an invitation, which included a login to respond and request an overnight, a few weeks ago. The two weekends are March 14 & 15 and April 11 & 12. If you haven’t received the letter, I would call your admissions counselor as soon as possible, especially if he wants to request an overnight.

fourmom: Your S would have received an invitation to the honors program in his admittance envelope. That should have been followed up by another package with more details about the program and Honors Weekend. Although we got our admittance envelope with the honors invite around mid January we never received an Honors package. If you got the invite, contact your counselor ASAP. They can give you all the info you need.
