So I was accepted into Tulane Honors and it’s one of my top choice schools. However, the timing of Honors Weekend (in March) is unfortunate since I would like to have the responses from all my schools before going down to Tulane, which will be my first time. So that makes me want to pick Destination Tulane, although I know I would be missing out on a more comprehensive and more honors-geared event in Honors Weekend. Is Honors Weekend so much better than Destination Tulane that I should go there instead despite the much worse timing? I’d really appreciate the feedback from people who have been to one or the either and especially from those who have been to both.
If it’s truly one of your top schools, and you would still consider Tulane even if you were accepted to all of your other schools, I would absolutely go to Honors Weekend in March. It’ll likely solidify your decision one way or the other. The activities are largely the same between Destination and Honors Weekend, but the big draw of Honors Weekend is that you will actually meet with an advisor and register for classes. If you don’t end of up choosing Tulane, then it’s no big deal, they just drop your classes and it frees up a space for someone else. Being able to register for classes ahead of everyone else is a big advantage.
The rest of it is more or less the same. Class visits are the same, campus tour is the same, welcome, faculty and student panels are more or less the same. I attended the parent panel for Honors and there were a lot of Honors specific Q&As, but didn’t learn anything earth shattering that couldn’t be answered in this forum or email. The registration is the biggest draw.
What are the schools you are waiting on? Maybe there are other factors that could help you decide either way … atmosphere, finances, etc.
@AH1310 Thank you so much! I’m waiting on other schools like Vanderbilt, Claremont McKenna, and Emory. Finance is going to be a big deciding factor. But thanks for clearing up that the one big difference between the two is the opportunity to register for classes early at Honors Weekend.
