Hook or no hook?

<p>Hey everyone.</p>

<p>So I've been hearing how URM status is helpful for HYPS and other top schools, but I've heard mixed reviews about the impact of people being biracial. I can see where being Hispanic AND black would be a plus, but what about being white AND Asian? Does this type of biracial ethnicity help, or would it be better to just mark white?</p>

<p>For most top schools, Asian is an ORM (Over Represented Minority). It will not help you. </p>

<p>I would just mark white as it seems Asians have to meet a much higher standard for HYPS.</p>

<p>If there is an option for “others” or “mixed racial”, I would suggest to check that as it may help. Otherwise, white may be better than Asian in most cases.</p>
