Mixed Race

Are people who are say half white and half asian viewed by adcoms any differently that someone who is entirely asian? In other words, does being mixed race (and only half ORM) make you not a ORM? (in terms of consideration for admission)

hey i’m half asian half white toooo!
annnnnd i’m also wondering the sammmmme thing you are haha

Nope you’re both still considered Over represented and thus do not get a boost

^ I’m not so sure of that. The question has been asked many times on CC but never authoritatively answered. I’ve always been curious, though, since my kids are 1/2 white, 1/2 asian.

My kids disclosed both races on their apps and have fared well.

As both are ORMs, how could there be a boost?

I doubt there is any URM boost; the real question is if there is an ORM penalty. I think maybe yes, maybe no. Based on my kids’ experiences, I think no penalty.

You are asian so there is a penalty.

^ I suppose your speculation is as good as mine.

At least my speculation has a bit of anecdotal evidence to back it up.

For white and Asian applicants, there is no boost but also no penalty.Think about it, people on here complain about how being Asian helps their chances, but Ivy League are still mysteriously 20% Asian, so obviously Asians aren’t being hurt

In contrast to common perceptions, the data I’ve seen on CC don’t suggest any significant difference in consideration between white and Asian applicants.

That’s quite the logical leap.
