Hooks for Int'ls

What hooks do you guys have? Music, art, anything special? Lets post to see what might actually get us into college! Time to take a break from scores!

at first i thought that the fact that i can speak 4 languages was a hook until i came to this forum and found ppl who speak like 7 or ten..so there goes tht..i thnk ballet and poetry might be my hook + my good ec's + my very international background and country hopping but o well nothing to special i wish i had written a book or something sigh

country hopping is a good hook, i'd say. i wish i'd hop around like you.
i don't know whta's mine. what counts as a hook?

I suppose something "extraordinary" that Distinguishes you from other people...like if u'v won awards for playing the piano, or u'v practiced gymnastics for a long time, or if ur extremly well rounded , i guess a vast cultural background also looks good..you could show that in your essays i suppose

o and btw country hopping is not that great....by the time you make freindes and start fitting in you pack up and leave. Its really very tiring and emotionally distressing...i think when im older ima have real issues lol...

It'l be nice if we also name the unis we are applying to.

My hook: International experience- country hopping - Norway, India, Korea, international schools all the way through, the charitable finance company i started www.strikegold.tk , skipping the 10th grade and getting equally good grades (not a hook, but a + point), being the student member of the accreditation committee of my int'l school.

im applying to Princeton, Cornell, Duke, Dartmouth, GAtech

im still a jounior so maybe i can actually write a boopk by next year...hmm..tht could be my hook

cool. im writing poetry and short stories for kids and i hope to get it published.

My hooks:
-Skipped the 4th grade
-Wrote poems & stuff that I never showed anyone
-Will one day write a book
-Lived in New Haven (near Yale U) for about a year (hey, that shld get me into Yale, rite?)
-Am supremely lazy (this shows I have exeedingly great potential - after all, the only way is up)

lol...hey call.. how r u gonna go about getting ur stuff published?

contacting a publishing house and sending the stuff in... btw. i think my best hook is my company. its new, but its special - something that i hope stands out in the adcom's eyes...what d u think?

y'know what guys? after seeing all your hooks, i might as well pull out...:D

well, my hooks, where art thou?

elodie,
are you a third culture kid (expat)...if so, read some books about the topic to reassure yourself about the impact of the country hopping.

And by the way, 4 languages is plenty impressive...

Hmmm... I guess my "hook", though there's a chance that the adcoms will not notice, is that I'm an apple lost in a, well, I don't know. I'm just lost, that's all. It's like, you know, a person from a different world.

I've done many firsts, relative to our school, town, city or even region; like webpage design and scripting, e-entrepreneurship, my erudition and philomathy, self-taught piano, guitar, katakana, hiragana and kanji. Not that impressive, but for someone with my background, it is something.

And I didn't do those for the sake of college admissions, but simply because I wanted to ;)

My horrid SAT scores though, could of course "unhook" me. Argh. >:(

"elodie,

ya...my dads a diplomat...yaya i know what these books have to say....all that bs about "celebrating diversity" and makeing yourself a more well rounded person through learning about other cultures...ect..ect..ect...i dont mind it that much.... i just miss my fwends:(

wat was ur sat score paradox?

my hook's music i think
is being well rounded a hook? i thought they were looking for a well -rounded class, not well rounded individuals

id say they are looking for both. btw. axfr, what did u do special in music?
