You didn’t list your SAT scores.

How do you know that your recommendations will be “beastly”?

ive had a glimpse of the teacher rec. idk about counselor rec. but im on good terms with her so it shouldn’t be too bad…at least i hope so. sat score is right under the rec. thing.

edit: tried changing the rec wording so it doesnt sound so misleading but apparently you can’t i guess. oh well

bumpity bump

are you planning to retake the SAT to improve your CR? If you could get that up, you’d be in better position for potential $$. The fact that your grades are trending up instead of down is good. I think you’re in fine. If you were applying to a LEP (business, engineering), your GPA would be an issue; since you’re not, I think you’ll be good.

don’t they take into account your gpa when awarding $? My friend got in with a banneker key scholarship last year with a 3.7 uw and a 2030 sat, in state of course.

Huge differerence between 3.0uw and 3.7 uw. You are way too low for a BK, unless you have an amazing hook.

WIth every year that passes and the economy in the tanks, you need better and better resumes. Your resume is strong enough to put you at a match due to the ecs and URM, but not strong enough for a BK…JMO

Also, since you said the folks came from Taiwan, and not you that really can’t be used as a hook. URM, yes, but not a hook. You coming from Taiwan with the folks at age 10 would be closer to a hook.

I would not worry about the SAT because 1340 out of 1600 is a good score especially if English is a 2nd language at home.

I would also agree with Astro, applying for any LEP the gpa would be an issue.

FWIW you should be a match, only b/c the SAT would counteract your low gpa.

Nah of course I’m not going for a bk, heck im not expecting any money at all. What astro said about bringing the sat up for money sounded weird to me since I thought gpa was taken into account for $. Thanks for the input though!

ps. I noticed there’s a “make your own question and respond to it” topic choice for the essay. Does umd have certain reqs. for it? Such as the demand in detail if you make your own qusetion. Could you possibly use a question from another college that you liked to use as “your choice question”?

Yes you could, they are looking more at the response than the actual question.
