hope after deferral?

does it say that we applied ED on our file or anything? as in, will the person reading our app know we were deferred?

yes to both.

Well I applied ED last fall...got defered....got wait listed at RD round....and then offered guaranteed transfer for fall 2008 as long as I keep a 3.3 at another college...now im not sure if i want to transfer....Alls well that ends well..

what school did you apply to college13?

How exactly do the guaranteed transfers work?? Someone told me they were usually to knock off some of the basic classes or requirements at another college.. or something.. i was never really clear on it?

THERE IS HOPE AFTER DEFERRAL! i was accepted today. all deferrees- congregate here to discuss your decisions!

good job dande!!!

congratulations dande i've seen you on these boards for a very long time and it's clear how much you wanted to go to cornell. you clearly deserve it, and if you choose this fabulous school, i'll see you there in the fall!! congratulations again, now celebrate!!!!

I won't have a new decision until last minute acc. to CALS :(
Oh well, 6 months of waiting, what's another 2 weeks!

dande, congratulations.....i know how you really wanted this and i'm so glad you are in!

Ooh, congrats Dande!! Eek, fingers crossed for the rest of us..

thanks guys! i honestly feel everyone here has such a good chance. we all want this so badly and hopefully they know that....

best of luck to you all and many thanks. my fingers are crossed for you guys.

^ WOW. that is awesome!!! congratulations :) :)

Oh I do hope there is a lot of hope after deferrment (Sp??) Everyday brings us closer and closer to our reality. So many people are being accepted early that it is starting to feel hopless. The past 3 months of sr year hasnt been all that fun. The waiting is so hard.

well when i was deferred i was, as you guys probably remember, super miserable and pessimistic. so i emailed my contact in admissions and she said that i should not get my hopes down, 30 percent of deferred kids are accepted which, i thought was funny, because now that i was deferred, my chances of getting into cornell were HIGHER than if i had applied regular. so there is hope. :)

From what I understand, they made an effort this year to only defer applicants that were solid applicants in the regular decision pool. They rejected a lot more ED applicants than in the past because they didnt want to give people false hope. If you were deferred - take it as a good sign. You are a very viable Cornell applicant, if Cornell didn't think so, they would have rejected you. I've also seen from CC and in the past that Cornell accepts such a wide range of people and seem to be looking for a "fit". So if you don't get in, it doesnt mean that you were not a great candidate, it just means that you weren't a fit for what they were looking for this year. It's hard to wait, but keep your hopes up and know that there is a great place for everyone and if it doesnt happen at Cornell, then somehow, it wasn't meant to be. Good luck!

As an architecture applicant, I put a lot of effort into my portfolio during the second quarter. Cornell saw my first quarter grades..which were good...but I kind of "fell off" in the second quarter because of my portfolio. So I got deferred with my good first quarter grades and a mediocre portfolio, and now I'm not sure what to make of them having my "less than amazing" grades and a much better portfolio. I guess we'll see, but I'm glad I at least got deferred.

I too called CALS right after I was deferred, and they told me the same thing: Cornell tried to defer as few applicants as possible, in order to prevent false hope. When I asked why I was deferred, I was told that they loved my application and extra-curriculars, but wanted to see my semester grades and compare me with the competition. That said, I'm not really optimistic, but deferral is definitely not as bad as it used to be.

yeah. cornell never even saw my first quarter grades for ED. if they did, i probably would have been rejected. I went from a 3.87 last year to a 3.23 first quarter. granted im more busy and in harder classes than ever before, but still it was awful. i was so miserable until my college counselor told me she never sent my first quarter grades! i then worked super hard and raised my semester grades to a 3.45 so that was good enough.

also. one of my really good friends who was deferred has no heard back yet from a rolling college and one who was deferred was accepted. sooo....i think it is just random if you are waiting for a rolling college.

HOPE! you guys have waited this long...just be optimistic. and remember, the ED round always has the strongest applicants. they just want to compare you with other RD kids, so your applications will probably be stronger by A) virtue of applying ED they see your interest (this is important, i was told by admissions) and B) a less competitive pool of NUMBERS. i.e. test scores etc.

please keep the faith! :)

Wow dande that is absolutely amazing! CONGRATS! I hope ur sooo happy right now because u have waited for this for so long! U are definitely one of the people I've been rooting for the most so I'm just so happy to c u get in! Have a great rest senior year and get ready to become a Cornellian!
