My son was accepted to Pitt for next fall (Arts & Sciences and Honors College). ACT 34, GPA unweighted 93-94, weighted 100, varsity sports, etc. Acceptance came a couple of weeks ago and he wants to go to Pitt (also, we're out of state - NY). He wants me to send in the tuition deposit. Wondering if Pitt sees that he's paid his deposit then would they figure they don't have to offer him anything? Does anyone know if sending the acceptance in now will adversely affect any possible scholarship $$? Would it be better if we wait to pay the deposit? Any thoughts? Thanks.

There is no reason to send a deposit now. I would wait. Your son will probably hear something soon.

I would wait until early next year. The enrollment deposit is non-refundable plus there is no advantage to depositing early.

He was accepted in August? That sounds very early…how does that work?

Pitt moved up its cycle this year and applicants are hearing very soon.

I was accepted in August too. My parents are not sending in the deposit. There is so much time yet and you don’t risk losing anything by NOT sending it. But you risk losing the deposit if he changes his mind down the road. What would be the rush/reason for sending it in now???

HSG

Did not know that! Thanks, MDMom.

Thanks all. I guess we’ll wait and keep our fingers crossed.

I concur…no reason to deposit!!! We are from NY also and waited until April to deposit even though we were pretty certain that our DS would go to Pitt by November.

Agreeing with others. I got accepted in January and didn’t send my deposit until the end of April (even though I had scholarship $ and everything back in January). There is no need to send in the money early.
