I was accepted into Pitt nearly three months ago. I do believe that I am qualified for a decent amount of scholarship money (34 ACT, 3.9 GPA, good essays & recs, etc), but I still have not gotten any word about scholarships yet. Nor about the honors college.
Does anyone know when you usually find out about that stuff?
Son applied Dec 29; accepted Jan 12; got letter about scholarship this week, Wednesday - $10k/yr. We are from NY and even with the scholship PITT is much more expensive than SUNYs, but it’s still on the list.
Pitt takes math and english subscores and recalcs that to an SAT score - if you do that with your subscores, M + English then needs to be 1450+ - if that is the case and your class rank is top 5%, I’d expect you’d have honors college mentioned in your acceptance letter. If there is no mention and you believe you qualify, contact admissions and ask for reconsideration of UHC eligibility. My son had the same issue in 2011 - I think it simply was rank since our school does deciles and not exact. Anyway - his GC clarified that he was actually in that top 5% and within a wk he had UHC and scholarship.
@siameseninja, You are more than welcome to give our office a call!
I will say, our Scholarship Committee will still be meeting through February, so many applications are still being reviewed. The latest anyone who has received a scholarship will hear back is March 1.
My daughter has also applied and has been accepted (Applied in September, accepted in October) Her ACT is 34 with a GPA of 3.81. We have heard nothing in regards to scholarships. She is nervously checking the mail every day…
Does being out of state reduce the chances of scholarships? If she recieved one, would she have heard by now?
@fabriz0771, The Scholarship Committee is still meeting and making decisions on scholarship awards weekly throughout February, so there is still time. Students who are selected to receive scholarships will be notified by March 1st!
tabriz, we were in same boat last year(with 33 ACT) and my impression is kid just missed scholarship(based on CC postings of peoople who got them). his math score was a 28 which is probably what killed the scholarship. his English subtest was fantastic so it had to be the math. i would not give up hope yet if your child is in top 5 percent of class. i am suprised you have not gotten anything about honors college though, i would call Pitt and ask about that. we knew very quickly, by way of letter that he was accepted into honors(or at least could join) and that he was in the schlolarship pool for consideration. it sounds like pitt is doing things a little different this year so i’m not sure whether people are still notified about these 2 things early on or not anymore. Still, i would get in touch with them to see what is going on.
My son got the $10K/year scholarship letter after close to four month of acceptance to U Piit and Honors. He is an in-state student, SAT score 2160, ACT 32 (Perfect scores in Math - SAT/ACT). He missed the boat for GAP
wow harrisburg, again my kid must have just missed it, was your award for this year and congrats on the money!! 10k a year makes pitt affordable if he decides to go there my kid was flip of yours with perfect ACT English not to mention 800 SAT CR so it was a bit odd to walk away empty handed esp since he was liberal arts, rather than STEM major (and by that i mean was a 28 math score really that big of a problem for a liberal arts/commucation guy with his CR stats)? but back to the OP, good luck!!!
