Hello, all :)
I'm looking to become a kindergarten teacher, but I want to go to school abroad (Paris, to be exact!). I was wondering, If I go to college in France, will I still be able to teach kindergarten in the USA? & if so, does anything different/special need to be done?

ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated!

It will be hard.

In order to teach elementary school in the U.S., you need to get K-12 certification and you may well have to major in early childhood education in some states. For example, in my state, 4-12 teachers can major in a variety of fields, but K-3 teachers must major in elementary education or early childhood education and become certified through that program. (I’m sure there are some non-traditional modes of entry, but a lot of times they require you to have majored in something very akin to early childhood education).

By going to school abroad, do you mean going to an American university in Paris, or attending a French institution? If it’s the former, that may be very doable. The American University in Paris may be able to prepare you for that end. If you want to go to a French institution, that will be harder, because the European educational system works very differently and you may not get all of the things that you need to be certified in elementary education.

delissa, you could go to school in the US but study abroad in Paris for a year or two and get a degree from the college in the US.

Hmmm…seems like Paris is calling you. Have you considered that you may just fall in love with the city and not want to return to the USA to teach. Might even fall in love with a person, and decide to put down roots there? Your whole life is before you now. How very exciting!!!
