Alright, so. I've been lurking on CC for what seems like an eternity, and to be honest, I've been somewhat frightened about making my first post, but I figured it was time. I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I'm looking for colleges that offer teaching english to speakers of other languages. Specifically, I'd like to someday teach english as a foreign language in France. (I'm coming up on taking my fourth year of French).

I've searched and come up fairly empty handed and was just curious to see if any of you were familiar with colleges that offer such a specific major as this.

(If it makes any difference, my gpa is about 3.8, but I'm not necessarily looking to find a perfect match, just more of a basic list to look through. After all, I've barely been able to find any schools with the major in the first place.)

I think TESOL is a post graduate degree. You could probably major in French or Humanities or almost anything else for your BA/BS at almost any college or university that interests you. Then you would go on to graduate school to earn a TESOL or other teaching certificate. Check out the department of education in the state you hope to teach in.

There are likely several different pathways to get where you would like to go. You could major in French, English, linguistics, etc, and then apply for a Fulbright fellowship where you could teach English as a foreign language in another country. The Fulbright is a prestigious award, and can lead to wonderful opportunities. Some colleges have excellent track records of students receiving Fulbright fellowships. If you are female, Smith College is definitely worth considering. Smith students win many national and international awards 17 Fulbright Fellowships in 2008 and 14 in 2007.
