Hey everyone.
So I'm not 100% on what I wanna major in, but I have ideas. And i want insight on the right route to take and what minors go well with it.

Basically what I'm mostly interested in, is being:
History teacher.
French teacher.
Work with a professional sports team.
Work overseas in another country teaching.
I'm open to other options.

I don't like a LOT of math. And nothing extremely difficult.

Main question, what are good major/minor combinations that go well together for the different jobs that I posted??
Aka what should I major/minor in for each of those jobs.

I'm looking into the University of Oregon. Will look into other schools if there is a better route.

Thanks a lot! And info helps

History or English.
duh.
Maybe Education, if you’re absolutely set on that route - but History and English are necessarily broader.

To teach in public school, you will need certification in some states, and probs a masters in something. To teach abroad, you just need to be a warm body with a college degree. And to work with a professional sports team (in what capacity?), you will need at least a master’s and a lot of experience/clout/contacts. Also, you would probably be severely disadvantaged if you are a woman.

If I would like to be a history teacher would the best route be to just major in history rather than education? Also what would be a good minor to go along with that?

And if I went the route to be a French teacher, would I major in French? Or major in education and minor in French? It’s all confusing to me right now as far as which major/minor.
And are there differences in teaching 6-8th grade rather than high school? As far as what to major in. Thanks!

I’m in a similar position. From what i’ve been told is to major in the subject you want to teach and you can minor in education of you want. Along with that you should be working on a certification program for teaching. If the school offers a major in History education you could do that too.

Education and history are really broad, you can’t really go wrong with either. A major benefit of being an education major is the opportunity to student teach. A lot of people double major or double minor, I’d look into double majoring in history and education or majoring and education and minoring in history and french!
