OK, I know this is a perennial topic on this board...but I really need to know this definitively in detail.
I am a academic person, but I just as well like to party, have fun, go out, and not come back until the early morning. All my life I've worked hard and played hard.
So, even though Hopkins has a Chicago-esque reputation, would I be able to find a decent social life to balance with my academic one?
Could some Hopkins people tell me about their social lives, ie what you did last Friday/Saturday night?

when I went there, I typically went to parties at a friend’s place or went to (sometimes dragged to by girls…=)…seriously girls…guys hate this) downtown fells point or federal hill for clubbing and lounging. There was also karaoke (Place is called Rainbow Music Studio or as I called it, Rainbow Room, in this Korean part of baltimore) with friends in which we smuggled in drinks. There are also random bars (Brewer’s Art), movie theatres (The Charles Movie Theatre with a delicious late night crepes place adjacent to it) near campus that I would hit up. Mt.Vernon also has some also sushi places and tapas lounges. Social life can be as low key or as crazy as you want to make it. You’ll likely make friends from both circles, allowing you to interchange your plans. Life is definitely not as boring as you might hear. If people knew about all of the crazy stuff that went on, we’d might lose our reputation as a serious academic institution…=). Senior year in which I snuck up to the bell tower of gilman tower was also a fond memory.

Thanks for the answer Blah2009!
Anybody else?

My daughter joked that Hopkins was a “closet party school.” She and her friends had a very good time in college (sometimes too good a time:) )–although they also worked hard.

The bottom line is that, if you want a fun social life at Hopkins–its available.

When I visited Hopkins for the first time in September, I went to four different parties in one night: one pregame, two frat parties, and a Young Republicans party. Hopkins kids can party…you just have to know the right people.

Also, if you’re looking for something different, try DC for a weekend. THEY know how to party.
