Hopkins has an outstanding academic reputation, however, i hear quite the opposite about the social life there. I myself am very social and enjoy going out on the weekends and meeting new people. What do students usually do on friday and saturday nights when they arent busy studying? Does it vary based on their age? Also, do Hopkins students travel to Towson and Loyola for some social activities and vice versa?

I think you find the range of students @ JHU. Some study all the time and some go out every night. Once you turn 21… the scene and nightlife definitely change. Otherwise, it’s social outings, frat parties and house parties all around.

Hopkins can be quite the closet party school. Don’t let the hard core academic performance fool you… Hopkins students definitely go to their share of parties.

Alcohol is pretty prevalent everywhere in the evenings. Spring Fair even has a Beer Garden if I remember correctly for those 21+.

among others…

WoI is correct, you have people that go out all the time, those that don’t go out mostly, and those that go out when nothing major is coming up.

the obvious limiting factors for going out are time money and interest…transportation hasnt been an issue for me. it was easier to go out (time-wise) my freshman year when the university still used the M/Tu/W scheduling so you basically had 4 day weekends all the time, but its honestly no biggie now either. transportation hasn’t really been an issue for me thanks to the collegetown and friends with cars- yes people go to other universities for parties and events but i honestly don’t go to other universities very often- maybe a couple times a semester, mostly through event collaboration efforts. im too lazy, but some of my friends go pretty frequently to towson and loyola. some even venture out to DC, but definitely not the majority. ive been to philly way more times than DC during the semesters lol. i guess it depends on your interests and where your HS friends went to college!

Are there many people who choose not to drink and still have a social life?

Baltimore ain’t Austin, Berkeley, Gainesville, or Madison…

It’s more like Loyola and Towson come to Hopkins for parties.
