I just got accepted into the Horizon Academic Research Program. I still have to decide whether I want to join or not. Since it’s $5,000, I wanted to know if the program is actually worth it or not.
thank you my issue has been solved
Can you let me know what you found out?
I did the program a few years ago and enjoyed it. My professor was in the UK, so most of my grade was based on my paper, not on class discussion and stuff. Maybe a cultural thing between the US and UK. The class (behavioral econ) moved quick, but I had a lot of time that summer so wasn’t a problem. If you have more than one other big commitment going on, be careful you don’t overstretch yourself. Not worth it if you want an intro to econ or coding class because you’ll spend all your time catching up (and you can take intro to coding for free in a bunch of places!). If you know the basics and are disciplined so you keep up with the work, it’s a good program.
Nerdraptor, can you let me know, what did you do with the research paper after you finished the program? Did they help you publish it?
Kimon11, what did you decide?
Hey Expertmaker, I did the program my junior year summer, and after the program wrapped up and I did my paper, I was pretty busy with college apps (and you know, being a senior and all!). My prof agreed to write me a rec letter after I got my grades and evals, which was nice. A few of my classmates applied to publish, and I remember one of them got accepted in our group of 4. I learned a lot about econ in doing the research, and the whole experience of writing this mega-paper was helpful. Sometimes I felt like my freshman university papers were easier assignments, haha.
