Ok so the school that I go to do not have gpa instead we have credits. So I dont really have a gpa.

I want to either major in sociology, geography, urban studies or urban planning..
What colleges should I apply to?

These are the colleges on my list:
Drexel, PhilaU, Temple, Haverford, IUP, SlipperyR, Bloomsburg mayb Bucknell

You may do better on the ACT! There’s still time and being at the top of your class is important. Also, plan to take some SAT II’s because some they measure what you actually know more and some schools will take them as an alternative to the SAT I. Some schools give a slight advantage to students who attended their summer program, so you might want to look into that angle. Carnegie Mellon is like that, I think.

there is always hope…

Do you guys have any universities besides the ones that I have that are pretigious & will accept me with those scores?

Come on guys I saw better help on other posts before >.>

I think it might help to think outside the box about the meaning of prestigious, and what else besides prestige you are looking for in a school. For example, what is your view of HBCU’s?

And try the ACT.

Take a look at the test-optional schools. One in Pennsylvania is Susquehanna, which allows you to submit two graded papers instead of SAT/ACT scores.

i would have to agree with stradmom, there are many schools that are now test-optional. I think franklin and marshall is one, wake forest is another.
thats a website with all of them, you can sort out yourself and see

How about Penn State and Pitt

Prestigious and low test score dont go together well

sorry, but haverford is going to laugh and throw your app out the window. study harder for the next test administration and like others have said try the ACT.

You need to find out why you have such low SAT scores. If you have always done badly on standardized exams, but you have always done well in class, it is entirely possible that you have an unidentified learning disability such as dyslexia. Do you think that might be the case? If so, you need to meet with your guidance counselor and your school’s psychologist so that you can be tested.

Since your school has an unusual grading system, it is hard for us to help you. However, your counselor knows which colleges and universities students with academic records like yours have been admitted to in the past few years. Have you spoken with your guidance counselor about which colleges and universities are good matches for you?

OP –

You should take comfort in the fact that most jobs in the real world care more about personal characteristics that are not measured by the SAT: Persistence, patience, optimism, friendliness, ability to play well in the sandbox with others, honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, etc.

You already know that in the classroom you do better than most in your school. There is no reason to assume you will not likewise do better than most in your career. Obviously real world performance does not match 1:1 with standardized test taking proficiency.

I say keep your chin up and be happy that no job I’ve ever encountered required the applicant to take an SAT… or any test. Focus on organizing your throughts and writing intelligibly and you’ll be ahead of most in the job force.

ps. There is 0 chance bucknell would accept you with those stats.

Without a GPA, universities will be forced to determine your qualifications through your SATs. Since your SATs are dismal (and do not reflect well upon your college level capabilities), you will probably be forced to go to community college.

Now in case you’re asking, “Where’s my affirmative action?”, colleges only give it to African students with a high GPA and low SAT. Since you have no GPA, colleges will just assume by default that it corresponds with what they have- your SAT score. That doesn’t bode well for you. Also, even Africans with low SATs at prestigious institutions usually have scores much higher than yours… at least 1600.

That’s very career dependent actually. Some interviews will test your knowledge.

Have you considered any of the HBCUs?

Maybe Spelman or Howard?

I just applied to state schools such as Bloomsburg, IUP & Slippery Rock and Drexel, Temple, Albright & PhilaU

Well also you guys are saying since I dont have a gpa, they will just look at my sats. & you guys are acting like I fail in school. I go to a Blue Ribbon MAGNET school!
The requirements for graduation is 240 credits & I earn that amount in my junior year so I do highly excel in my high school. Most GOOD colleges wont throw out my application just because of my SATs! They already know that the SATS are difficult and not everyone is a good test taker…plus I have a great essay and great reccommendations so I should not settle for less just because of my SAT scores!!

Since you attend such a unique school, the best person to talk to is your school’s college counselor. He or she will have insight into what colleges favor your HS and should be added to your list. Talk to your favorite teachers as well - they will know what students have gone on to good colleges and successful careers.

your optimism is great but perhaps a bit unrealistic. if you had SAT scores in the range of about 1800 i would be inclined to agree with you. However, scoring a 1360 (significantly below the national average, which is 1509) definitely shows colleges that there is an issue that cannot solely be blamed on bad test taking skills.

you are right that your grades/evals/whatever system your school uses will indeed give you an upper hand over those students who have similar SAT scores and the typical corresponding GPA (which would be below a 3.0/B average). this means that there definitely will be schools who will like what they see on your transcript and they will accept you. but for the most part, these schools are not prestigious universities. you not be competitive for schools that have SAT averages above 2000, seeing as all those students also have an A- or higher average GPA.
