Hospital Doctor = Professor?

I've been wondering about this for quite some time, but after doing some research on the web I still haven't found the answer, so I thought I should ask this in CC. Say you want to work in a hospital like Johns Hopkins or MGH; do you have to be a professor, as well? If you do, what are some hospitals that are large and prominent like JH or MGH where you don't have to be a professor?
I wanted to ask this because I would want to be a doctor who does research. Can you do research in a private practice, or do you have to work in a teaching hospital and be a professor in order to do so?

Thank you

Anyone...?

Doing research pretty much means being at an academic medical center. There are exceptions, but it is rare. Policies within the academic hospital vary, but many require everyone who practices there to be on the faculty of the associated medical school.

At this point, your job is to get ready for medical school, then do your clinical training, THEN worry about getting on the faculty at a research medical school.
