Hi @hkissgurlz,

1)what do parents get to do on a prep’s 1st day of arriving to school? Help settle them into their room I guess—do we get to visit the cafeteria? do we get to join the orientation? I know we’re supposed to leave at a certain time.

2)can girls wear sleeveless shirt/dress to class? or need to put on top a cardigan/jacket?

3)Once class is over, any jeans/sports wear is OK, right?

Thx for yr reply!

@soxmom My class had half preps and half lower mids. Plus, a lot of preps take 350, so it’s not a problem at all! Remember, there’s also 250 which is geometry, and 280.

@confusedonhades Unfortunately, I am not. I wish I applied to be one though!

- My parents helped me settle into my room, you can visit anywhere on campus as long as it’s before your child has to start orientation. You can help your child get their laptop and there’s a meeting in the chapel for new families. Once they get into their groups, you may not tag along.
- Technically sleeveless shirts and dresses are prohibited. However, faculty are not as strict about the girls dress code as much as the boys. I would recommend wearing a cardigan to cover up sleeveless clothing, but during the last month (May), many girls wear spaghetti strapped dresses and shirts.
- After the school day, you can wear whatever you want. Most people wear sweats or comfortable clothing after sports.

@hkissgurlz when do we find out who our advisor is?

@confusedonhades I think we find out our advisors/rooming information August 1!'so excited!!

I also go to Hotchkiss so I can answer any of your questions. I’m in the class of 2016.

I’m found out my advisor the day I got to campus. She arranged a little meeting with my mom and I so that they could get to know each other.

Roommates you find out sometime in August, if you have a roommate at all.

Would you suggest E&R laundry and is it possible to make it without it?

I did my own laundry all year long, and it wasn’t at all a struggle. However, I’m sure not how it is for guys because they have suits and ties and things like that. But for me, it wasn’t a struggle and I could get my clothes when I wanted them.

I assume no one’s heard anything more on whether the dress code is going to be relaxed somewhat this coming year? I’ve been holding off on buying jackets and ties for my son, not knowing if he’ll need them every day or just on occasion.
Oxfordman, if I recall correctly, not every dorm has laundry facilities in it, so you might want to wait to make the decision until you know what dorm you’re going to be in. Much bigger pain in the neck to do your own laundry if you have to lug your stuff to another dorm to do it.

Soxmom so far there haven’t been any updates. If they don’t mention anything by say the first or second week of August chances are things will stay the same.

Oxfordman and soxmom,

The only dorm without washing machines is Van Stanfoord, and that is an upperclassmen girls dorm. So unless you are coming in as a junior or senior girl, your dorm will have washing machines.

I walked into one boy’s dorm and noticed that he had a long table stretching across his entire room! (it was a single) Do all the dorms have that?

Sorry but no, not all dorms have that. The lower-classmen boys’ dorms are Tinker, Wieler, and Edelman. Edelman is the nicest, but prep boys usually don’t get Edelman. Wieler is pretty nice too. It’s attached to the health center and it is the second closet dorm to Main Building. The rooms in Tinker are fairly small, but Tinker is known as a really fun dorm because there are so many people.

What are the dorms that lower mid girls usually get?

Are we supposed to contact the coaches for Varsity tryouts or would it be late at this point?
