I applied to the hotel school ED as well. Based on the results on CC this year, it seems that they put more emphasis on SAT scores and GPA in the early decision round. A few people applied ED with not so high SAT scores but a lot of work experience but got deffered. One of them even went to the summer program at the hotel school and got professors to write recommendations, but he got deffered anyways. Then again, the hotel school cut ED admissions by half this year, so only the best people got in. I don't know what they'll do next year. Hope this info helped. :)

that does help thanks yummi!

im so screwed... looking at yummi's post..

i'm not saying u won't get in at all. I'm just saying the people who got in ED this year had really high SAT scores. if ur stats aren't that great but u love the hospitality industry and u have work experience, then I'm sure u'll get in the RD round.

so yummi heard from Cornell yet??

crap so what if you have fairly high numbers (2310 SAT I, 800/770 on SAT II's, 34 ACT and 4.0 GPA) but absolutely no work experience in the hospitality industry (I only interned at a law firm for a couple yrs)

I haven't encountered anyone like that yet. But from what I heard, the hotel school puts the most emphasis on work experience and passion for the hospitality industry. If ur a junior, u still have time. Just apply for a job at a restaurant or hotel and work for the summer. It shouldn't be hard.

rach: I haven't heard yet. I think it's coming out on 3/29

goood luck! :)

What if you have average scores (2250/2400), but VERY little work experience? I'm genuinely interested in the hospitality industry, but does that mean anything if I barely have any experience?

I would really get some experience. Even if its just at a restaurant on the weekends, its better than nothing.

What do you think if you have a 1970 SAT, 3.9 GPA, Top 15% Rank at EXTREMELY Competitive HS, 630/590 SAT II, and 1.5 years of retail experience? Am I completely doomed? Maybe a Guaranteed Transfer? I had brain surgery my junior year and heart problems last semester. I've been hospitalized 4 times in a year and a half. Does that impact anything? Am I sentenced to community college?

no... ur not completely doomed. 3.9 GPA isn't that bad. Like I said, the hotel school does not put that much emphasis on stats. Just do well at ur interview and as long as u show passion and interest, I think u'll be fine.

For once someone with a positive outlook! Thanks I appreciate the reassurance.
