Hotel School Chance

Hi,
I am applying to Cornell Hotel School in the Regular decision round.
SAT 2020 - 700 M 630 C 690 W (1330 M + C)
Top 2% of class
NYC Public school
7 AP's
Sat II- 710 IC 740 World History
President of 4 clubs(Amnesty, FBLA, etc.,)
Captain of a varisty team
1 internship at an AIDS organization.
Excellent recs and good essay.
Is my lack of hotel related work experience going to hurt me? I really want to get into Cornell, if I don't get into Stern (applied ED). How are my chances?
When do you have to register for an interview? After you send in the application or before? Thanks in advance.

I'm not all that familiar with Hotel School (ILR transfer applicant), but I do know that hotel experience makes up for ALOT! It's not as number driven as the other schools, but experience makes up for that. Also showing you have a very clear interest in that hotel/hospitality industry is a must. If you don't have an interest in these fields, it will show. So yes, lack of experience in the hospitality field will hurt an applicant.

They say 80% of their incoming class has hospitality experience. With good stats and a really good essay and a really good interview its not impossible you just are not in the majority.

Does anyone get offer from Hotel admissions for Spring 2006?

Hey you might want to check my previous post on this (click on my name and look at past posts) but yeah, work experience definitely helps. I almost went to NYU but for their restaurant management major, not the business school. What makes you want to go to Stern (besides their awesome program?) vs. Cornell Hotel (also an awesome program). I would say Cornell's program is very specific so don't do it unless you are sure you want to do something hospitality related, and not as a backup for Stern.

I did get accepted into Stern ed. I want to major in finance and Intl. business. But also have interest in hotel and restaurant management. But Stern was definetely my top choice.

heey congrats! if you're more interested in finance and accounting i would say definitely go for stern. you can always take classes through their restaurant management major. I think it's located in the Steinhardt School of Education, and there's also the Tisch program (the other one, not the arts program). plus new york's a GREAT location if you ever wanted to work in a hotel or restaurant. Best of luck!
