hours limit

As of right now, I have 14 hours, but I discovered I couldn't claim my calculus credit and have to add 408k to my schedule, which would put me over the 17 hour limit. Do I just get permission from my adviser? or would you recommend against a freshman taking 18 hours?

Also, what time does the add/drop period open on the 19th?

I think 18 is fine. That one hour over is your UGS signature course, right? Hopefully you signed up for one that engages your interests.

Just be careful - a lot of those UGS signature courses aren’t cakewalks. My son dropped his first one, and even the second one was harder than he expected. I was surprised, because he’s always been a strong student. He had a hard time finding a UGS class that fit in his schedule, so that didn’t help. He couldn’t be choosy.

It’s my language class that’s putting me over the limit, it’s 5 hours but it’s my passion and my major. And I do find my UGS course interesting.

My schedule is
CH 3
PHL 3
UGS 3
CHI 5
and then I have to add M 4(needed to take chem.) which pushes me over the limit.

Generally, they won’t allow a freshman to take 18 hours, but it’s worth a shot to ask your advisor. They didn’t even let my friend with a 2400 SAT and an awesome HS GPA/rank go over the 17 hour limit, which is bullcrap imo.
ask though, some advisors are nicer :P

Hopefully they let me ;~; or I’ll just drop chinese and get the math class I have to have and try to find another 3 hour course to take.

Honestly, since Chinese is your major, I would drop Philosophy instead and be at 15 hours.

^ I can’t drop it, it’s linked with my UGS for TIP.
