Housing advice

I'm going to attend Cal next year, God willing. My parents will plan my student fees, but they're not going to help out with the cost of room and board at all. They're pressuring me to live at home (I'm from the 415), but that's really not an option, so I'm going to have to earn most of the money for room and board myself so as not to go too far into debt. Thusly, I'm going to have to live in a triple to save money. Which is the best Unit building to live in?

Where do upperclassmen live? Not to sound like a lame high schooler, but where do they party? Just their own pads? Frats?

Also, can you get work-study opportunities at Berkeley even if you didn't qualify for the financial aid part of work-study?

Most upperclassmen live off campus in an apartment. It's cheaper than on-campus housing. Having your own place is a big plus cause... the party's right there. :) Frat parties... hm, there's much more underclassmen there for sure.

Work study has to be part of your financial aid package. However, you can still apply for various campus jobs even without having work study.

That's what I mean, but how likely are you to get them?
