<p>OK, so the freshman housing in incredible, but everything after that is a step down after that (I know...I'm an alumnus). So I was just wondering...does the housing cost come down accordingly? The per month cost for the Commons is pretty out there.</p>
<p>The price for everyone in on-campus housing is the same, whether you’re a freshman or a senior…whether you live in a tiny double or in an apartment-style suite.</p>

<p>I love how comparatively simple our housing is lol. Vandy, Duke, and Rice seem to have awesome housing, but it sounds a bit more complicated. However, I must note one other difference w/our frosh housing. It isn’t like Vandy/Duke (if my assumption is right about them) in that it is located directly on main campus at the epicenter. I believe Duke and Vandy kind of remove the freshmen from the epicenter and thus they give them their own dining hall and stuff, right? Ours are by and large (Harris is the exception. And even for them, it’s only a 3-5 minute walk) located by the main dining hall as is (yet for some reason they plan to add additional dining space to the main one for the freshmen, which I think is a waste unless we plan on increasing enrollment). Seems the epicenter of our campus is a lot tighter, so that makes some things easier (Only C-mont and Woodruff/Clifton tower get different dining halls/mini-convenient store as they are basically on/in the forest. C-mont also gets its own giant athletic facility. Actually much better than frosh housing if you ignore the lack of proximity). Overall, housing is pretty nice here compared to some schools (it is at least a little more consistent. If you’re going to get a bad year, it’ll be sophomore year). </p>
<p>Also amazing to see the difference in our “perception” of the economy (the article was published in 2010). They’ve ramped up those darned construction projects again, and it will probably get quite annoying for those who have to deal w/it (just opened a new frosh dorm last year and now they are building another. Another freaking research center is coming, they’re going to add on to the stupid, ugly, chem building, the village is constantly being worked on, a giant mixed use project is near us, one sophomore dorm will eventually be demolished for a new one. All parties act as if the economy recovered. Fail!

<p>Also, after looking at those 360s, I have a question. How much do the Commons rooms vary in size? That one displayed looked relatively small compared to the newer dorms here (it seems that type of lofting is unnecessary to create more space. The rooms seem wider)</p>
<p>Actually, my S thought his Towers double on the 12th floor with its roominess and great view trumped his sparkling, like-new, but smallish double in Gillette in the Commons freshman year. (See the couch at the foot of one of the lofted beds in the 360 view of the Commons room? A chair fit there in his room.) This year he’s in a 2-bedroom suite in Lewis (wanted one in the Towers, but didn’t get it), so we’ll see how that stacks up against his former digs. <p>Those who are arriving at Vandy this fall won’t get to live in the new housing that will take the place of Kissam, but I believe the project will be underway during their time on campus.</p>
