Housing and CalSO

From what I've read, Berkeley does housing through a lottery, so there is absolutely no advantage to applying early as long as the May 5 deadline is met. Is this correct?

About CalSO: I was accepted to the college of chemistry but I don't think I will know for sure that I am attending Berkeley till towards the end of April. On the website it says register before the program fills up. How late can I wait before I risk not having a spot for orientation?
Also, since I know we register for classes is there a huge advantage to attending an earlier orientation date? My socal school doesnt get out until late late June. The two chemistry college programs are the 3rd and 5th CalSO programs, would it be worth attending the 3rd date if I am able to miss school, how much of an advantage is it?

Earlier = you choose courses first.

Where are the CalSO dates listed? Also, can we sign up right now already?

Can we sign up right now or do we have to wait until we submit our SIR?

SIR first I think
