Hi,
So I am potentially considering a school which I can commute to instead of live at. On my FAFSA application I put down for that school that I would do On Campus housing, do I need to go back in there and change it to live at home so a new estimate can be produced?
Thanks

With each school, you specify a housing situation. School A might be on-campus. School B might be off-campus. School C might be living with parents/relatives.

Your EFC does not change, but COA (costs of attendance) will. The difference between EFC and COA is the primary basis for need based financial aid.

If you have not listed School C, then add School C with living at home. If you have listed School C, and initially put down living on-campus, then you should change it and let the school know you changed it. They will then revise your FA package. Actually, you probably do not have to change it. Telling the school might be all you need to do. They can tell you if you need to revise your FAFSA.

Instead of room/board costs, you will have commuting/food costs. So, while there will be some difference, it is not the full amount of room/board.
