Housing App.. NEED HELP GUYS!

My family and I decided to stay at UC Berkeley dorm for only one semester, just to get that college experience and settled down to the school's environment without spending too much money. However, on the page there is only three options:
1- Full year
2- Spring Semester(that wouldn't be much sense since I'm would be a fall freshman)
3- Summer

I would be calling the school's housing tomorrow since today is a sunday but nevertheless, I do hope you guys would help me out.

so what’s your question? I believe Housing contracts are for a full year unless you opt out during the 2nd semester (not sure how that would work though).

I’m asking if there’s anyway I could only live at UCBerkeley in the Fall semester and not for the whole year.

Not on the website. Maybe they would work out some deal with you, but I doubt it since it’s so big and there are students who actually need the dorm for a whole year. Plus, they fill up quickly.

I would still ask them though if you could do that. They probably would just recommend housing near the campus or something. Tao House is basically like the dorms…but its not affiliated with the campus, but students from the school live there.

and paying only for one semester.

Nope, you have to sign the contract for the entire year.

However, the housing is in high-demand, and if you let them know that you plan on moving out for the spring, there is a very good chance that they’ll relieve you of your contract as someone else will be willing to take over for the spring. This is simply not guaranteed.

To be on the safter side, you might want to look at some “private dorms,” which are technically off-campus, but for most matters, they are equivalent to the actual dorms (except for the amazing internet connections). For example, consider Westminster House or Telegraph Commons.

The contract is for a full year, but you can opt to move out in the spring subject to them finding a replacement and less $300 cancellation fee (not sure about the exact figure for the fee), but housing is so in demand that it’s very unlikely you don’t get out of your contract. So that’s a “risk” you’d have to take, but there is the option of moving out after fall and getting a sublet or w/e. One of my friends did this and had no problems.

Also the private dorms should have semester contracts - Westminster, Telegraph, Tau etc. - basically they’re dorms and they only accept Cal students to live there, but they’re not affiliated to the university.
