The university housing contract opened today and I was wondering if anyone could share how this process works. Today I put in my info and it said I was added to a list based on the time I accesed my account
How long until I get an email to complete the application? Is this when the fee is due?
I just want to be sure I'm not missing anything because I know dorms fill up fast!
Any input would be apreciated.

@hambam13 that happened to us too and we were having a lot of difficulty in the first place with the website (the application was slow to load, then froze us out, then we got that message). I called Housing as soon as we got frozen out and they told me not to worry because our fee had been received so we are in line for a housing preference and that those can be updated, changed, or whatever pretty much anytime up till May. I guess when they finalize the decisions they look to see when the application fee was paid. One thing I found out when I called Housing was that they didn’t have a record of a date stamp on the application fee - so she manually entered that in. So we are hopefully ok but we still can’t get back in to complete the application till we receive that e-mail from the U of MN - I think. You might call Housing just to make sure your application fee has been received and date stamped to yesterday. Good luck with the housing process!

Complete your app here: housing.umn.edu/application
This will prompt you for your login info and take you to your app, whether in process already or if you need to start a new one.

Thank you both for your input and help! I was given the screen with that had a date stamped with the time but it never asked to pay anything strictly to do with housing. I’ve only paid the fee to confirm enrollment. I’ll call housing later today. Thanks!!

I’m confused. The same thing happened to me. I tried to fill out the application, and it told me that they would email me with instructions on how to do it. I was never asked for payment information or anything. I guess I’m just concerned as to why others could fill it out and I was not allowed to?

@celesteroberts I tried that link several times because it’s on our confirmation e-mail - but when we try to login it fails. It appears that the application website might be down? Not sure. When I called yesterday they told me I could come back to the application at any time (recommended later at night) but as of this morning we still can’t get in. I’ve sent off an e-mail to Housing. I’m sure they’re getting many e-mails and calls today!!

@hambam13 definitely make sure when you call that they look up your enrollment fee and have a date stamp on it. We received a date and time stamp on our end but Housing told me they didn’t have a date stamp on their end so she entered it manually. Had she not - not sure what our place in line would be! And thanks for clarifying the difference between enrollment and deposit: we paid the $25 fee which I think is enrollment? We haven’t selected housing nor paid a deposit yet. Didn’t get that far!

Here is the message we (and it sounds like others) are receiving when they try to retrieve and complete their application. Obviously Time and Date will vary:

2015-16 Housing Application Date/Time Confirmation

On 11/18/2014 at 12:11 PM, we received your intent to complete a 2015-16 Housing Application. We have saved your Internet ID and the time and date your request was submitted. You have established your position on the list and we will contact you via U of M e-mail with further instructions to complete your 2015-16 Housing Application.

I think they are very busy and can’t handle the level of traffic they are getting. I had an awful time yesterday and spoke to someone on the phone twice. Was finally able to complete and pay for housing($25). This morning I was able to log onto app to add a dorm to preferences, but it was very early, between 6-7 am Central.

After I received that message from them and S never got any email, I called and they claimed they didn’t have a record of it in their system. Though perhaps it is there and they are overwhelmed and can’t track it. But that is what they said. So I managed to get in and start app many hours after that message. Now I’m trying to present a case to get the time in line established as the earlier time. I have a screenshot saved in file. But guessing I’ll have more luck a couple days from now.

When you use the following link: housing.umn.edu/application the current message reads that The housing application is not available at this time. I guess that’s an improvement over watching the URL twitch and glitch like it was doing earlier! Perhaps the high volume crashed the website.

@Mamelot I got the same message as you…at 12:11 pm on 11/18/14 even though I logged on much later. Must be a system glitch. I never even received an email, only the message when I log in. The only money I have paid is the $250 enrollment fee. Should I be expecting an email? Do you have any idea when the system will be up for me to apply? I’m worried about not getting an email.

The site is allowing me to log in and go to housing application, but I think that is because there is already a completed housing app on file.

Maybe 2-5 am is a good time to try?

The way it works is when you finally are able to log in and start the app, you first fill in some profile info about contacts, parents, etc. Then the payment page is in the middle and after that the roommate request(need their internet ID), dorm selection(need to choose at least 6 and order them, though it allows you to select different room types within a dorm and counts that as separate selections.) And some other pages. If you get in during a busy time, have a block of time set aside to finish it as each page may take ten minutes to get processed. It may say there is an error, but then go ahead and process the page anyway. That happened with the payment page and others too.

@celesteroberts thank you so much for your help! My problem is when I log in with my uid and password, the message comes up that says the date and time I logged in and they saved my spot for my intent to complete the application. (Same message as Mamelot earlier) so how do I get to the actual application part? Thank you!!

I’m guessing they may have shut it down because they are having trouble with the system. Or else they are so busy that only a few people can get through of the many who are trying. Can you get through on the phone and ask? If it is shut down completely, then there is no point in repeatedly logging in and trying.

It seems I was lucky yesterday to be able to do the application at all. At the time I was more than a little annoyed at all the time it took and the phone calls and whatnot. Good luck. And be sure to try in the middle of the night if you can’t get to it during the day today.

Ok thank you! I will try it later in the night to see if I can get in. Otherwise everytime I login it says they will send me an email to complete it which I have never received. Thanks for your help, hopefully I will be able to login and will try calling the housing office to see if the whole system is shut down right now or not.

@celesteroberts just to clarify, when I log in with my uid and password, should it automatically redirect me to the housing application? Is that what it did for you? Or did you get the message that they would send you an email to continue.
Thanks!

Well, yesterday I had the tracker open on computer, so it skipped the login part and went directly to the application since I was already logged in. This morning it went to the log in and then to the completed application. But just to see what would happen, I tried to access it via the ‘apply now’ on housing webpage just now (with tracker open so logged on) and the message with the time stamp comes up for that. So don’t try to get in that way for sure.

Ok thank you! So I should try to acess it via tracker?

No you can’t get in through tracker. But if the tracker is open in another tab so that you are logged in, if the system is running it will skip the log in step and go directly to he application with your name on it. So far I’ve only been able to get in through the housing.umn.edu/application URL.

Sorry my earlier post was not at all clear.

I’m still confused. I’m going to have to make a call to housing I think. If I’m logged in it still redirects me to the original housing website where I log in(again) and gives me the message that I can only continue after I get an email from the university(it’s said that for 24+ hours with no email) I haven’t been able to even gain acess to the application yet
