^basically what the title says. I misinterpreted the deadline as May 15th so I just payed the 25 non-refundable fee and submitted the housing application yesterday. Does this mean I probably won't get a dorm to live in or I'll have to live in an apartment? Btw are apartments (the campus ones) more expensive than dorms? And also, would the dorm/apartment ranking still be considered even if my application was overdue? all answers are appreciated.

yes , the apartments are more expensive than dorms.
They do guarantee u some sort of housing if the appln is submitted before may 1st.we don always get the preferred choice. That being said i read somewhere that it isnt all that big a matter if u submit it a day late.u may not get ur choice, but hey, no big deal.
sit tight and cross ur fingers. weel meet at the U

this is kinda a outside question, but I really don’t want to start a new threat with only one question. Is it possible for a transfer student to get on-campus housing? how likely it is that you will get assigned a dorm as a transfer student because I heard more than 90% of the dorms are reserved for freshman?

true, but heck, just pray

So I’d better find off-campus housing now then
thanks anyway

hey tell me if u find some cheapish housing i need to do some really good cost cutting.
which are the neighborhoods most likely to provide"cheap rent housing??"

I don’t know. I’ve never been to minnesota before. I think I would try some off-housing search on the university’s website. I would prefer places close to the university.

Are you also coming to UMN this fall? Or you are already a UMN student? Do you know how much the average housing costs in MINN are? I did some searching, and it gave me a whole bunch of options ranging from $700 to $1200 (for 2 persons)

im coming this fall as an international incoming freshman.- minn housing +food is costing me about 10000+overheads and that majorly overshoots my budget.
i tried the search 2 and got similar results.too tough to do anything from 7000miles away.
id love a deal of the order of 500-600dollars a month housing.
i have to manage in <20000 dollars(efc) or take student loans to cover the rest …

sorry noaveragegenius for using ur thread lol

Do I have to pay the 250 dollars even if I didn’t submit the application by May 1st?

if they sent u a mail saying u need to then yes, you have to.

I hate to say it, but yes, you are fairly screwed if you submitted after May 1st. There are a lot of people trying to move on campus every year. However, most people move into an apartment after freshman year anyway, so it wouldn’t be a big deal to get an apartment right away.

but the price. it’s just too much!

hey i thought off campus was cheaper?
if i was a bit closr id choose off campus- i really need 2 save.
but from 8000miles away-its toooooo tough.
so im moving out in the 2nd year
