Housing Application

The Housing Application states that “Note: Your building preferences will take priority.” Does this mean that (for example) if I make Max P my number one dorm request and make getting a single my number one priority, I would still end up in a suite in Max P (they have no singles)?
Basically, I’m asking whether the decision of where you are going to dorm in is made independent of any other requests and takes absolute priority.

Please give me an answer quickly, as the deadline is tomorrow.

I just finished my housing application. I “prospied” in Max Pavlevsky in April, and they told me that it’s basically impossible to get a single there as a first year. Basically, all of the single room suites are taken by upperclassmen. So if your trying to get a single, I wouldn’t put Max P. first, but that’s just my 2 cents.

I am also conflicted about my housing application…I put North Campus as my first choice (I want a double) and specifically requested Behar House because I was told they’re the lowest to the ground and I’m afraid of heights. Hopefully the Housing Office takes this into account for me!

Where did you put down that you wanted a lower floor? I also want one, but didn’t see anywhere that I could put it.
Also, thanks for the advice, but that does’t really answer the question as to whether building preferences take complete priority (Max P was just an extreme example).

Since the form clearly states “your building preference will take priority”, I would take them at their word.

@chicagokid2021 additional information

@funkymonkey321 Behar, Yuen, and Thangaraj are all closest to the ground at the same height. North isn’t a great place to be if you’re afraid of heights though - it’s lowest floors are at the same height as the top of Max!

From what I remember from last year they were pretty explicit about this. Building takes priority over single vs double preference.

" . . . and specifically requested Behar House because I was told they’re the lowest to the ground and I’m afraid of heights."

  • Where can you request a specific house? Do first years get to choose their house?

@JBStillFlying You can write whatever you want in additional information. But, no, you can’t choose your house and housing will likely ignore that.

@funkymonkey321 North is composed of incredible stable buildings. No need to worry about heights, in my opinion. If you can bring it to yourself, try and visit the top floor of the main building! The view is astounding and it will give you a rough sense of the street structure of Hyde Park. You can see Stagg field from the ninth floor, I believe!
