Any current UW - Seattle students out there that can give a little info on what would be a couple of good dorms to put on housing app? Any to try and avoid? I am from Ohio and when my parents and I visited this summer, the tours did not include any of the dorms. Thanks.

bump me up.............

Lander/Terry - South campus, a little ways from classes, basically all freshmen, very lively, hard to get sleep before two. Not great food in at 1101 but right on the Ave which is a huge plus

Mercer - don't know much about, kind of isolated and on south campus

McMahon - rooming in clusters so get to know a few people real well but less open to the rest of the floor. Best food on campus besides the HUB in its restaurant 8, on north campus and very close to classes.

McCarty - I think biggest rooms, its on north campus so close to 8 as long as a big field and tennis courts. Has the engineering housing and I think honors too. Also Ian's Domain in bottom floor great for snacks or watching sports.

Haggett - the other one on north campus

If you are more into partying I'd advise applying to Lander and Terry first. If you'd rather live on north campus I'd suggest McCarty, McMahon, and Haggett in that order.

My son really likes McMahon, has been there for two years. Do be sure to get the application filled in on the first day, and you should have no problem getting into your first choice. McMahon actually has a few single rooms within clusters. My son has one of two in his cluster, so there are a total of 10 guys. Although the room is tiny, he can close the door and no one will come in and bother him!

^^Thank You!!!

Which is the quietest dorm?

Hansee is supposed to be the quietest, and is mostly single rooms, but you need to be either 20 years old, or a returning UW student. Here's a link to the official page about it: http://hfs.washington.edu/student_housing/residence_halls.aspx?id=303
and here's a link to the student-generated page about it:http://students.washington.edu/hansee/faq.htm

Here's an old CC discussion about the various dorms http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/archive/index.php/t-253.html -- rather amusing, and still pretty true, I think.
