I'll be a freshman next year at the UW and when looking for dorms, I found that (out of my choices as a freshmen)were that McMahon and Lander were the good.

I'm not a very social person (but I like meeting people!) and I also need my private time (studying, etc.) I understand that in terms of campus, McMahon is closer, but I also heard it's not social at all (I want to make at least some friends)

Any information would be great!!! (Especially about the bathroom situation with each dorm). Thank you. :)

Also still trying to decide what dorms to sign up for… I think I’m doing Lander–>Terry–> Haggett and then whatever else there is after depending on sociablity, assuming the app gives you more than 3 choices…

I went on a residence hall tour (Haggett) last week and they said we sign up for four choices Can you tell us your reasons for those three, ilikeuw? (nice name btw )

Haggett certainly has its advantages, but I stayed there last summer for a week-long camp and was not impressed. The rooms, to me, are barely livable. Though the huge closet is a major plus. All dorms are small but Haggett seems especially small for two people to live in.

I visited Haggett also and the person I was visiting really doesn’t like it that much. She said she would prefer to be in Lander or Terry. With McMahon you kind of have to go out of your way to make friends, unless you don’t mind developing a little clique with your cluster mates. I think your best bet is Lander and if that doesn’t work out then switch later.

I don’t get it…college isn’t clique-y like high school is! And it’s not like your ONLY friends are from your residence hall. And 7 people are basically in your lounge area all the time, so a couple of those at least have got to be friend material. Plus I’m sure it really can’t be that hard to walk down the hall to another cluster to make more friends.

I said you could develop a clique not that college is clicky… Also there are some cliques in college, most people avoid them though. And your only friends will not be from your residential hall, but no matter where you are dorming you still have to put in the effort to make new friends. So if you don’t mind McMahon, go for it! I personally like the atmosphere of Lander and Terry more because of its set up and structure. I’m just letting you know what I know about it.

Sorry if I sounded a little rude–I’m just really confused because other people I’ve talked to have said McMahon is the nicest. What do you think about being on that side of campus (Lander)? Is it weird having to walk across the ave to get to class every day?

@lobstaaattack: would you recommend lander over terry? i’m going to be a freshman next year. also, i’ve heard the bathrooms at lander are pretty nasty…is this true?

I’m going to be a freshmen just like you guys, I would just like to clarify that. I just visit the campus more frequently because of my friends that are in college and my sister graduated from UW.
Mo x4: Walking to the main part of campus isn’t really all that bad. I did it today and it takes about 10 minutes?? And who doesn’t like being closer to the ave? Also the buses come by very frequently, so if you don’t feel like walking that day the bus is always an option. However if you want to be closer to your classes I wouldn’t recommend Terry or Lander… I guess you just have to prioritize what you really want.
Nik: I haven’t been to every Lander bathroom or Terry bathroom, but they aren’t that bad. I guess it all comes down to how nasty is really nasty to you. They’re like a typical high school bathroom except you have toilet stalls at one end, sinks in the middle, and showers at the end. I even showered in one and I didn’t think it was too nasty. But I would highly recommend bringing a pair of flip flops no matter where you dorm at the Dub. For me, Terry is my number one choice because I heard the Residential Director is a lot more chill. Lander is nice because it is mostly freshmen, but Terry is primarily freshmen too and just seems more lively every time I have visited.

@lobstaaattack. Thank you for your help. Another question: Is Terry generally louder/more obnoxious than Lander? I definitely want to make friends and be social, but at the same time I need a relatively quite atmosphere every now and then to study.
