Heyy! Awesome! Okay see, I’ve heard people praise the Upper Rez for its ‘American College-like community/dorming atmosphere’ and seen people choose upper rez for that very reason… I was previously always leaning towards New Rez or Carrefour but now I’m not sure anymore. Does this mean that the new hotels don’t have any dorm-life? What is this dorming atmosphere they talk about and how is it different in the newer residences? Thanks a bunch!

Heyy!
So what you will find in upper rez is, as you said, an American dorm type of thing. People on a floor have a sense of belonging which is rarer in hotel style rezes.
The facilities are definitely nicer in New Rez or Carrefour. The food is more varied, the caf open all day. But if a community is what you’re going for, you should seriously consider upper Rez.
This is pretty hard to explain since it is very subtle…

Hi!

I’m looking into staying at Douglas Hall next year but I’ve heard that it’s generally very academic and quiet. Is that true? Can you tell me more about Doug? Thanks

Hello!
So Douglas has a very nice community, and most of the people there are interested in building it. The building looks amazing. There’s a caf inside the rez.
Most of the rooms are arranged in 3-bedroom suite sharing a common room. Those common rooms are where students party, although mostly on Fridays and Sundays.
This is a generalization but I’d say that this rez is less into binge drinking than the three upper rez.
Cheers :)

So, yes students are generally serious there (many of them are scholarship recipients) but they also party. It is rather well balanced.

FYI they are mere yards away from the upper rez’s

If I’m not mistaken, Sherbrooke started operations as a residence in 2009. So this year would be the second wave of Sherbrooke students.

I’m interested on how the students spent their time there. Hotel-amenities aside, there’s not much talk about how was Sherbrooke (socially). The facebook group only had posts of the new students planning to make the best out of the new residence, and there was no further posting about how it turned out.

Also, from an article of the Tribune, I understood that they were still going through the building of the actual cafeteria, laundry rooms, and whatnot during last year. Hopefully you have some insight of how’s everything now? I wouldn’t want to pay the same as New Rez but get less, heh.

Hello,
Sherbrooke had some issues this year, as far as facilities are concerned.
The laundry was not operating. Each resident got a $200 gift card for laundry. I think everything is ok now but I will double check.
The cafeteria also opened later in the year. It is definitely less varied than at new rez, although you can get fresh sushis (which are only available in boxes at NRH). The cafeteria is open way later at Sherbrooke (till 11pm).
I was told that the comunity was very different according to floors. It is still a hotel like rez so it mainly depends on the floor fellow, the people on your floor.
I will get back to you soon with more details.
Peace

Hey can you please give me an in detail description or more residences social scene and like life there i cant find very much on the MORE residences and im going there this fall

Hello can you tell me everything there is to know about the MORE residences???

What do you know about Rez council and becoming a floor fellow?

Hello! I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about Solin? (Or more specifically if I should bring a mattress pad)
