Thanks monomania, I guess if we get the deposit in early enough she should have a good shot at it.

monomania87, good input. We had heard last year that upperclassmen were unhappy with freshmen getting such nice housing. Had even heard that the freshmen might suffer some backlash for it. So far it hasn't happened, thankfully most of the students seem to understand that the freshmen didn't have input into how the university decides housing. On a side note, I do think that the WVF housing helped tip the scales for some honors students, which in turns boosts NEU's ratings, etc. which in turn makes a NEU degree more valuable in the long run.

I have read in some other forums that has been a real problem with mice in the past. One student said his dorm was infested, the university acknowledged this but did little to remedy the problem. To any current students/parents- is this really an issue?

Not in WVF..

I had heard at orientation that mice and rats were a problem in general in the city of Boston (or many parts anyway) just as they can be in many large cities and they could be seen around campus. My S who is in Stetson West said that he often sees them outside but he hasnt reported seeing any inside yet. From reviewing the residential life web page I know there was a section that talked about procedures for submitting work orders to repair things in dorm rooms such as heating or electrical problems and one of the samples of a work request that they list is for pest control services. So I highly doubt that the school ignores the problem. But I think it is also not a problem that is unique to the school. Also I think NEU has over 30 different dorm buildings of varying ages and sizes so it may also be more of a problem in certain older buildings than in newer ones. West Village F is brand new and even the two Stetsons (all-freshman) are fairly modern so I'd expect less of a problem in any of them.

pharmmom - Any way of sharing what the other forums are? I am interested in gathering as much info as possible. Northeastern is first choice for son; he was accepted into PT program.
Thanks

There are several such as students review, yelp, but the one with the most info I have found so far is http://community.livejournal.com/northeastern/. Click on memories and there is info on just about everything. Many of the posts are are several years old, so things may be different now.
Most of what I have read is very positive.

If you get into WVF in the freshman year, do you have to move out in the sophomer year? How about in Stetson?
I got in EA (engineering) but I need to wait till I learn about the full merit aid situation, so I guess I won't be able to apply early enough for honors housing. But if it is only for the first year, it is not a big loss.

WVF is only for the first year Honors students, if you get in. Stetson is only freshmen. Their housing is all on a lottery system and you need to reapply each year, and you do not get to choose which dorms you want, say 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices or anything like that. So, yes, plenty of opportunities to get into WV especially as an upper grad.

scansmom, do you know how they assign freshman honors housing for WVF? I read it was best to get deposit in early, first come first served. Having read this, we already submitted our housing deposit for WVF, although there is a small chance D may not attend NEU.

RatedPG: How did you submit your housing deposit? Did you get a form or anything? Thanks!

We submitted on-line through MyNEU. After submitting the deposit, we got access to the housing application which asked for preferences, etc.

yes, my understanding was that WVF honors is first come first serve; same with live/learn communities

Thanks scansmom, that's what we hoped.

Anybody know if the engineering LLC is hard to get into?

Is there a dorm where engineering women are a majority? If yes, how easy/difficult is it to get in for freshmen? Thanks.

Our S is in the Bouve (Health Science Student) LLC in Stetson and seems to love being in the traditional freshman dorm. He's a pharmacy major and has made a lot of friends who are in the same or similar sections of the classes he's taking so they have a lot in common. The freshman dorms are noisy and full of activity, but there's always places like the library to study in peace. The club and intramural activities he's been involved in help him meet upperclass students and ones who have different majors. We live on the west coast, but the distance hasn't seemed to be a problem for him. He loves Northeastern and was looking forward to returning for the spring semester. Having the two cafeterias in the same buildings is a huge help in the winter!

My son got into the Engineering LLC and he was regular admission and did not send in his deposit until just a few days before the 5/1 deadline for acceptances last year.

There is also a freshman LLC for female engineering students which I think is called Connections? I may be wrong but I think LLCs are only for freshmen.

Thanks, I'll research the Connections.

Thanks scansmom, ebeeeee, monomania87 and creasemonkey for your very helpful advice on here.
