Hey everyone,

So im going to be a freshmen at UCR this coming fall. I was wondering about the housing that is available at UCR. I know that they have the Pentland suites and then two or three other "regular" dorm facilities. I also saw that they have on-campus apartments. Are freshmen eligible for these apartments? Also, where can i find out pricing information on housing? I cant seem to find anything on their website. Which dorms would you guys recommend? Im the out-going type and dont want to be in a dorm with a bunch of goobers. I'm looking to have the college experience but also get everything done. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

yea there doesn’t seem to be a lot of info on housing…if anyone can comment on how a triple at Pentland looks that would be very much appreciated.

I just took a tour through Pentland today and the triples looked pretty cozy. I wasn’t able to go inside a triple, but I was able to take a “peek” inside and basically the triples are on the 3rd floor (taller ceilings). But the room is “loft” style … Meaning there are like two levels inside the room with one bed on the bottom and two beds on the top. From what I could tell, it looked pretty cozy on the top.

Honestly, I would advise to stay away from a triple. The “beds” on the lofted level are just two mattress on the floor. you can stand up straight, but not much room up there. Do pick a double in Pentland Hills. The buildings are very nice and the doubles are just the right size. If youre good at moving around your beds and other stuff, you can maximize your free space to have a queen-sized air mattress on the floor and have your friends sleep over! (the air mattress eventually formed a leak and we stopped doing that, lol) If you’re looking for a very social experience, go for the “traditional” residential halls. AI and Lothian are long hallways with rooms on both side of the halls, Very social. Pentland Hills are buildings with 8 suites and each suite has a small lounge and the building itself has a big one for everyone. Pentland Hills can be social too, just need to have the right people. The on-campus apartment is called GlenMor and is for returning students. (meaning no first years) The off-campus apartments that are under UCR Housing are really close. (across the street from campus…)

Price ranges based on your meal plan and where you’re living and double/single. major difference would be a few thousand, and overall housing is about $9-10k for the school year. Includes food, light, water, wifi, lan, small gyms, studyrooms, piano rooms, housekeeping for everything but your own room, small kitchen, computer labs + printing, pretty much everything.
