Housing at UCSD- Triple vs Single?

Could be, I saw that too. But the one I posted did say that the timing of the lottery was dependent on submitting your payment and final request on time so I assumed they mean the timing of the application must be within the window of deadlines whcih is consistent with what Alice.du was told.

yea i think i saw that too but i noticed that only continuing students were doing the room selection. [UC San Diego Housing - Room Selection Frequently Asked Questions](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/roomselection/faq.asp)

Interesting, there seem to be about three or four similar pages on their site with overlapping and slightly different info about housing selection. Love to see an actual sitemap of that process. Based on your link, which I hadn’t found becaus epresumeably it’s geared towards current students only, you are probably right. The downside is that if returning students get room selection before freshmen are placed, the liklihood of any singles being left is about nil and the 65% in triples means nearly 100% of incoming students in triples. Ah well, all dreams of privacy dashed…

rarely are continuing student and freshmen rooming together or even in the same suite.

Continuing students being able to pick before freshmen should have no affect on the availability of singles for freshmen. Continuing students/sophomores/2nd years cannot necessarily get what they want either. Its a lottery for us too. (lottery for time slots is a lottery nonetheless)

this is really confusing… i heard different stuff from different people. Hopefully i’ll end up in a single. And Comp Sci, i saw older posts and there were many incoming freshman who got singles. HOpefully we’ll end up in singles…

@ alice.du : my apologies, my information was only intended for ERC. I do not know about other colleges.

If you’re in a single, don’t you have to bring everything yourself? Fridge, microwave, etc… Only reason I’m considering a double instead of a single.

well for marshall, we only have single or triple… not good

How much cheaper is it to live in a triple room versus a double or a single? Does it save a lot of money or is it just a couple hundred dollar in difference. I can’t find any info on the website.

@pisces: click here for the info : http://hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/images/ContractAppendices2009_10.pdf

Am I the only person who actually signed up for a triple?

i signed up for a triple

Not true. I know many students (more than a dozen) who signed up for triples but ended up with doubles. Go figure.

Apparently, the demand for triples exceeded the supply. Must have surprised Residential Housing gurus.

Times are tight and maybe people are looking for a way to reduce college costs. I bet SHIP wiavers are up this year too.

nm, figured it out
