How is life in triples?

OK -- so UCSD Housing keeps saying it is going to be difficult to get a double. So, if one is assigned to a triple, how bad is it? I am told that the majority of freshmen live in triples. Would like to hear your experiences on:

-- closet space
-- work space : is it better to study in the library? is it impossible to study in the room?
-- what is it like having two roommates? what can one do (other than handpicking roommates which I did not have a chance to do) to be mutually supportive, yet not get in each other's way? I have heard about horror stories about roommate hygiene and work habits -- does any one have stories of how they dealt with "delicate" situations involving their roommates?
-- if you can;t get along with your roommates, can you get reassigned or do you have to make do?
-- do Resident Advisors or House Advisors help? resolve disputes? help in changing rooms?
-- how much better off those assigned to a double?
-- what should I NOT bring (because of space constraints) if I am in a triple?

I am in Muir, if it makes a difference.

I personally was not in a triple but my best friend was, so I got to experience all of her stories and likes/dislikes about her room. I’m just going to say general things, someone who had firsthand experience with a triple can answer your more specific questions.

I wouldn’t worry toooo much about roommates, most people just make it work.I think what worked best for my friend is when she and her roommates would sit down and be entirely honest with each other. One of the girls had abnormally smelly feet- so they agreed to keep the window open year round, 24/7. The RAs are fantastic, mine helped solve all my own roommate issues over the year. Reassignment can and does happen but only in extreme situations.
People who are in triples get used to it and don’t mind it. The year goes by incredibly fast, you’ll be out of there before you know it. That being said, I’m so glad I was in a double. Haha. Sorry, just the truth :)

Would love to hear from current UCSD students or alumni about their own experiences with roommates – what they like or hated about triples, doubles etc.

Where did you do most of your studying? In the room or library?

THANK YOU!

actually I lived in a triple in muir and I loved it. I had the top bunk which was a bummer but i got used to it after the first week. You get used to being woken up by someone elses alarm clock and it’s always good to have two people to count on to wake you up if you can’t seem to wake up for class. Of course it depends on your roommates but my roommates and suitemates turned out to be really chill and we always got along. The rate saver triple is the same size as a double with 3 people in it… our room was pretty messy with clothes and stuff cause there wasn’t that much space but it wasn’t that bad. All in all i think it doesn’t really matter what you live in as far as space goes but what i noticed is that the most social people in my building were the ones with triples and the least social were the ones with singles and doubles… Maybe its just muir college but if i had a choice id pick a triple all over again.
