Housing Chances

Hello!
I sent my deposit to UofC on March 29th but I requested a roommate who sent her deposit on April 28th. We chose Max P, South, and BJ in that order. I am afraid that we’ll end up getting housing that we didn’t select; can anyone give me any insight as to the chances of actually getting Max P/South/BJ? (particularly Max P/South) Or the chances of getting housing that we didn’t chose on the form? Any advice?

Thanks so much!!

Call the school, that is the best way to find out.

Well as you probably know, the fact that you requested a roommate means that UChicago will use the later enrollment deposit date in order to determine your place in the “line” of people requesting each house. Problem is that Max and South are probably the hardest to get into and April 28 is about as late as it gets in terms of when people deposit. BJ may be possible, but I know a guy who was in your position last year who deposited April 27 and got stuck with “exiled” as he says to I-House after not getting any of his top three choices.

But anyway, yeah max and south will be tough, but BJ could happen for sure.

I’d imagine your chances are slim for getting into South or Max with an April 28th deposit. If anything, you should cut your losses now and pick more “reasonable” dorms to get into that would also suit your interests.

BJ is probably still feasible, but if you’re interested in South, then New Grad is somewhat close by and has comparable amenities (plus private bathrooms). New Grad is also one of the “satellite dorms” that will close as soon as the new North Campus is built, so I would encourage you to think about the opportunity to move into North Campus after a year as an added benefit to choosing a less sought after dorm.
