Hey....after sending in my deposit I'm just wondering if anyone knows when you choose your housing?

I’m wondering the same thing. if someone could answer this, that’d be great.

There will be a day in April that all student who have sent in a deposit will be able to fill out a housing request form. Check reslife.binghamton.edu for updates.

It’s sometime after you pay your deposit. I paid mine last minute…I think the night of April 30, hah. But I think, for the people who paid early, they got to choose around April 25-ish. I think you find out which community you’re in sometime in June, because I remember being happy that I’d be in CIW when I was at orientation, and I went to the July 8-9 one. Then you find out your roommate at the end of July or early August, I can’t remember. Btw, I’ve heard that if you request someone (and the request is mutual, of course!) you’re almost guaranteed your first choice. It worked for me, and I applied for housing way later than a lot of other people.

ive heard that a lot of people are in forced triples because a higher percentage of the kids accepted to Binghamton over the last couple years have been attending. If you mutually request a roommate in a specific type of room, is there a better chance of avoiding the forced triple situation?

Hah, no. I was actually in a temp. triple even though my roomie and I requested each other. She left within like a week or so (and we got money for being in the triple, haha), but it was mostly because she found someone without a roommate and moved in with that person, not because the RA found something for her.

Triples are totally random though, because my triple was the only one of the floor.

Besides, triples aren’t that bad, as long as you don’t get the top bunk (they make you pick randomly when you move in, so it’s fair for everyone) because the top bunk’s like 6 inches from the ceiling, so you can’t actually sit up in your bed. You basically just crawl around…yeah the top bunk sucks.

Oh, btw, I don’t think you can request a specific type of room. Like in CIW there are doubles, a designed triple, and suites (Mohawk is all suites, but I think that’s for break housing only), but when I applied for housing it didn’t ask me what kind of room I wanted.

But in Hinman, the rooms are too small for temp. triples, so if you get a room you’re guaranteed a double. If there’s no more room though they put the extra people are put in the lounges or something instead, which must suck.
