Housing info...?

I know there are lots of threads on housing, but when do we get stuff from the university? After you send in a deposit?
And what kind of info do they collect from you? (i.e. what/how much do they ask about location, type of room, roomate matching, etc?) Also-is there any advantage to getting the deposit and housing forms in early?
I'm spending so much time figuring out what I want (and I know I'm not alone) but I'm just wondering: how much of this is totally random regardless?

Read the booklet from your admissions letter, it's all in there =).

After you send in your deposit they should send you housing info in May. There will be an form that you fill out (online or by mail). You can choose who you want to room with if you have a person in mind. They also let you choose between traditional or apartment style, and I THINK what they do is have you list all of them in order of preference, so if you're really unlucky you COULD get into the hall you hate the most.

I have a feeling a lot of it's totally random. But be as early as poss just incase. They ask apartment or dorm style and then you just list the freshman dorms in order of preference. The roomate questions are something like: do you want you room to be a place for study or social? do want to make rules and stick to them or be flexible? and i can't remember the other one, possibly something about tidyness.

i just have a question:
is housing provided all 4 yrs?

simple question:
Do freshman dorms have central or room air condition? what's the typical room temperature? thanks

It's guaranteed all 4 years if you apply on time each year. If you leave NYU housing at any time, though, it won't be.

A/C & room temp... depends. Rubin doesn't have a/c, UHall has central a/c. It makes almost no difference since it's not warm enough to use a/c after the first 2-3 weeks. As for room temps, no idea, but my Rubin room was really warm all winter long - like, I usually wore shorts and a tshirt inside.

Does anyone know the exploration floors website? Like, which floor is in what dorm?

youkosiren, thank you for your answer. more simple questions:
does non suit (e.g double room) have private bathroom? Is there bank in or near any dorm? Thanks

all NYU rooms have a private bathroom. If you're in a suite of 2 rooms, you'll probably share a bathroom with everyone in the suite, but it's still a private bathroom (ie, don't have to go out into the hall, stall showers, etc). It's NY, so there are banks everywhere. Just make sure your bank is actually in the city, so pick a national bank - Washington Mutual, Citi, Chase, Bank of America are all good choices. I have an account at Commerce Bank - which is nice because they're open 7 days a week, no atm fees if you withdraw from non-Commerce atms, etc - but they don't have branches in Ohio where I'm from, so it can be a little bit of a hassle when I go home.
