I thought the following might be fun for some of you to see some of the "advertising" the upper class houses do as housing day approaches. Housing day is this week (I think March 10th). The following is what I have come across for 2011 so far.

To those who wind up at the Quad - I’ve had two kids in the Quad and they both loved it. It’s a great quality of life with really tight communities.

^ that is exactly the point. It is the beginning of house spirit.

What I think many who do not attend Harvard do not realize (including me before my daughter went there) is that the student’s house is more than a dorm. It is part of their school identity. As I have been told (please correct me if I am wrong) is that at reunions Harvard grads identify themselves by their house.

@gadad - until I saw the above videos, I did not understand the fuss about how great the Quad rooms are.

Some of these videos are amazing. The Pfoho blog deserves a mention too. It’s really funny! I don’t know why people say Harvard doesn’t have house spirit.

A “block” of eight people is a group that you put together on your own; the assignment of blocks to Houses is random (or done by a “Sorting Hat” if you prefer :)), though your block can ask to be in proximity to a couple other blocks. All the activities aren’t designed to make students choose your House; they’re intended to make the frosh feel good about the Houses into which they’re placed.
