Housing deposit for undecided admitted students

Can I put down a housing deposit if I am still undecided if I am going to Tulane?

Of course! It is refundable until May 1.

thank you fallen chemist

Why would you do this? Is housing assigned based on when you submit your deposit?

In Tulane’s case, no. Many schools do though. I assume in Tulane’s case people just like knowing they are all set in at least one college. Other than not having $500 in the bank, which at today’s interest rates problem costs a dime in foregone earnings, it has no real downside either.

Does anyone know if they are allowing SCS students to live on campus ? What are some good places to look for housing options if not able to get on campus ?

@TUfamily

Hmmm, that is a new one. I don’t think that normally SCS students are offered housing, but only the housing office can tell you for sure. If not, there are tons of rentals in the area. If you can find a roommate (housemate) or two, it can even be fairly cheap. Craig’s list has listings all the time, and I think the housing office at Tulane does as well.

It’s agonizing to think of her living off campus. It looks like Tulane has come up with a new concept of living communities , which groups students by their interests and lifestyles. How fantastic! What a privilege for those who are able to attend. We will keep hoping and praying for a RD acceptance. Have they started accepting/rejecting RD students?

I think they are just starting to. Mostly so far it appears to be those that were deferred from EA.

One thing to keep in mind is that much of the housing is very close to campus. My D lived in a house literally right across the street from Newcomb Hall her last 1.5 years. True, it is different than the dorm experience, but it isn’t like they have to be miles from campus either.

@TUfamily I wasn’t aware of a change in Tulane’s housing … Will the new approach be similar to “residential colleges” that some schools have? I thought Tulane had a traditional dorm approach ??

@proudmom1106

Right now it is a mix. There are dorms specified for certain interests and others that are just dorms.
