Okay, I THOUGHT I was organized. But I guess not. My D was accepted academically to FSU, but her audition isn’t until 2/23. She was accepted into the Honors College, and I realized that there was a 2/15 deadline for accepting the Honors College. So I enrolled in that today, and had to pay $30 for an enrollment fee (although we do get a cool tee shirt out of the deal). Then I realize maybe I’d better call about housing, and the woman says I’d better hurry up and apply for housing NOW b/c they are about to run out. So I had to choose dorms and rooms and I had NO idea what I was doing…I hope I chose the decent ones, although the way the woman sounded on the phone we’d be lucky to get anything at this point!

Sigh. Anyway, a long-winded warning for those of you who have been accepted to FSU and might go there. Everything but $50 of the $225 housing deposit is refundable…I have no idea if my D will even get in to FSU…chances are she won’t! It’s such a good school and they take so few kids. But on the small chance she does, she needs a place to sleep!

Can this stuff get any crazier? What other schools have I missed out on dorm rooms? Maybe we should start a thread…

My son was accepted into the Honors Program at FSU and even though he didn’t attend, we only lost a little bit of money (that was 2010). Since I’m an alum, I felt like it was a donation to my school. The Honors Program does have special dorms. I remember my son signed up for Landis. It’s right in the middle of campus close to the library. Housing does fill up really fast as the school is very popular! Good luck!

@Monkey13–Tip from an FSU MT Dad, your D can apply to the living learning centers and if accepted, can get good housing that way. It requires an additional application but its worth the extra essay. S1 the MT BM is in Cawthon and S2 the MT BFA got into Bryan that way. There are extra requirements to be part of the living learning centers but it is managable with the MT schedule. Both are very close to all of the performing arts buildings. We did not send the housing deposit in until much later and that was really the only viable option for good housing. Think positive about the auditions, your D has as good an opportunity as anyone else to be admitted into the MT program!

Nccpdad, funny you should mention that! I just applied today for the LLC for Music. The dorm looks beautiful. And, this year, there was no essay necessary! So, it was just filling out the form (“filling out the form, filling out the form” - [title of show]).

We are really looking forward to our audition on the 23rd, and seeing Spring Awakening on the 22nd. Your son L has been so nice…texting my D and giving her info! Thank you so much. We have Indiana this Saturday, then FSU next week…then only one more after that and we are DONE! We will think positive about the auditions, and I think my D will be relaxed, b/c she got into Ithaca’s MT program earlier this week. Phew. An acceptance. But FSU has always intrigued us, so we are really looking forward to exploring the campus and seeing the show.

Thanks again for the info…and for your son’s generosity!

And kksmom5, I have rec’d so much help from this forum…just want to pay it forward.

^^
Cawthon, the LLC for music is a great location. So close to all the performing arts buildings. CONGRATULATIONS on the Ithaca admission! Great program! That is so awesome. Phew is right! L had some of his best auditions after receiving his first positive admission response. I’m so glad L has been helpful to your D. Break a leg at IU.
